PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Howlett (ranked 937 p4p, 874 weight class) and Gunt Jernit (ranked 95 p4p, 91 weight class). Howlett comes to the cage accompanied by Indestructible. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Howlett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gunt Jernit!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Paulsen Ambrosius and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Howlett takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Howlett is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Howlett darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Jernit is holding on to half guard well.
Jernit works his way to full guard. Good work.
Jernit is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Jernit looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Howlett tries to free his leg and advance position but Jernit is retaining full guard.
Jernit wants to sweep here but Howlett controlling him for the moment.

Howlett thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Jernit gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Jernit throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Howlett fails with a takedown attempt.
Howlett is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Howlett will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Howlett tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jernit paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Howlett looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

A little jabbing left from Jernit on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Howlett shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Jernit counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Howlett shoots in looking for a takedown. Jernit tries to sprawl out of it but Howlett keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jernit manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Jernit looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Howlett avoids the head kick by Jernit.
Jernit uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Howlett has time to react.

Jernit has control of Howlett's left arm, preventing Howlett from doing any damage.
Howlett stays in close to Jernit's body and controls the position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Howlett stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jernit swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Howlett shoots in but Jernit avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Howlett tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Jernit looks like he wants to counter punch here.
A slow jab from Jernit misses its intended target.

Howlett looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Jernit is fending him off so far but Howlett persists. Nope, Jernit circles away and we're back to standing.
Howlett will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Jernit is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Howlett with a body shot.
A nice inside leg kick there by Jernit. That's going to slow Howlett down.

Howlett moves forwards but Jernit connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Gunt Jernit seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Howlett takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Howlett on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
James Howlett seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Jernit counters with a slapping leg kick.
Gunt Jernit is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Jernit lands a leg kick that knocks Howlett off balance momentarily.
Jernit paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Howlett is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Howlett dives in and grabs Jernit's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jernit pushes down on Howlett's head and hops out.

Howlett shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jernit as he jumps to the side.

Howlett is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Jernit takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Jernit ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Gunt Jernit showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
