PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Uriel Mitchell (ranked 3417 p4p, 3394 weight class) and Colton Tanner (ranked 324 p4p, 321 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Uriel Mitchell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Colton Tanner!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Frank Dennis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mitchell just misses with a punch to the body.
Tanner gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Tanner shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mitchell but Mitchell pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Mitchell bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Tanner's head backwards.
Mitchell's jab looks to have found its range, popping Tanner under the eye.
Uriel Mitchell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tanner misses with a takedown attempt - Mitchell sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Nice shot lands for Mitchell.
Mitchell digs a good body shot into Tanner's ribs.
Mitchell slaps away a takedown attempt from Tanner, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Uriel Mitchell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Colton Tanner.
Tanner tries to close the distance and clinch but Mitchell swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Mitchell cracks Tanner with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Tanner has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Tanner there as he acknowledges the shot.
Mitchell scores with a crisp jab that stopped Tanner in his tracks.

Mitchell lands a jab to Tanner's midsection.
Mitchell connects with a body shot.

Tanner closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mitchell to the mat! Mitchell manages to get full guard.

Tanner seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tanner seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Mitchell scores with a crisp jab that stopped Tanner in his tracks.

Tanner fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mitchell, pushing him back against the cage.

Tanner postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tanner working the strikes but Mitchell uses the opportunity to regain half guard.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Tanner drops an elbow to the side of Mitchell's head.

Mitchell is looking to improve his position.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Mitchell scores with a sloppy right hand. Tanner should have avoided that one.

Tanner walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tanner fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Mitchell to the ground. Tanner is now in Mitchell's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Tanner postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Tanner throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Mitchell utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Tanner throws an elbow that misses. Mitchell uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Tanner's guard. Nice move by Mitchell!

Mitchell has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Tanner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Mitchell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tanner swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Tanner is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mitchell is controlling him.
Tanner seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Mitchell has hold of Tanner's hands but Tanner slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Tanner wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mitchell keeps working.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Tanner shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mitchell sprawls well. Mitchell wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Tanner gets slowly back to his feet.
Mitchell was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Tanner closes the distance and pushes Mitchell back into the cage.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Mitchell.
A nice left hand lands by Mitchell.
Tanner is working for takedown but Mitchell is calmly controlling the position for now.
Tanner drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Mitchell gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Mitchell pushes Tanner back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Tanner drops down looking for an ankle pick but Mitchell pulls his leg out and moves away.
Tanner walks into a straight right hand from Mitchell.
Colton Tanner has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Tanner fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Tanner moves out of range of the strikes.
Mitchell scores with a nice strike.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Tanner takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

And that's the end of the fight!
Uriel Mitchell showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mitchell, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
