Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joao Miyao (ranked 1473 p4p, 1436 weight class) and Richard Castillo (ranked 133 p4p, 130 weight class). Castillo has chosen Sepultura - Attitude as his entrance music. Joao Miyao had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joao Miyao! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Richard Castillo! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Percy O'Donnell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice uppercut there from Miyao. Castillo lands the left hand. Miyao looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Miyao scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Castillo wants to control but Miyao is keeping busy.
Castillo wants to get back to full guard. Castillo makes his way to full guard, as Miyao worked for a kimura.
Miyao stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Castillo swivels though and keeps the full guard. Miyao wants to control from the top but Castillo keeps moving. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Miyao drops back, looking for a kneebar! Castillo looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Castillo looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Castillo! Castillo lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Miyao down.
That's one minute gone in the round. Castillo throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. An elbow from Castillo crashes against the mat.
Miyao manages to get back to half guard. Miyao is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Castillo scores with a couple of nice shots. Castillo thows a huge punch but Miyao dodges it nicely.
Ground and pound from Castillo. Castillo prevents Miyao from improving his position. Castillo sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Miyao defending well though. Castillo missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Miyao is positioning himself well to prevent Castillo advancing to mount. Miyao is looking for a sweep. Castillo is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. The fighters are battling for position here. Miyao manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Miyao wants to sweep but no luck. Miyao seems keen to control Castillo's posture. Castillo trying to control the position from guard on top but Miyao is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Miyao has control of Castillo's left arm, preventing Castillo from doing any damage.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Miyao doesn't succeed with the takedown and Castillo cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Miyao takes a kick to the side of the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Castillo throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Miyao's head. Miyao moves out of range of the leg kick from Castillo. Castillo pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Miyao throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Castillo's waist but Castillo gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Miyao off to one side. Castillo feints a counter leg kick. Castillo looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Miyao misses with a straight right. Miyao shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Castillo sprawls well. Castillo wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Miyao gets slowly back to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joao Miyao. That's going to take a lot out of him. Miyao looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Castillo is fending him off so far but Miyao persists. Nope, Castillo circles away and we're back to standing. Miyao fails with a takedown attempt. Joao Miyao seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Miyao shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Castillo counters with a lovely straight right hand!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Castillo misses with a head kick.
Castillo stuffs the takedown attempt from Miyao. Miyao gets slowly back to his feet. Miyao fails with a takedown attempt. Castillo shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Castillo scores with a head kick.
Miyao is rocked! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Miyao shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Castillo counters with a right hand to the body. Oh Miyao is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Castillo throws a sloppy head kick and Miyao moves out of range easily. Miyao seems to have got his legs back now. Miyao fails with the takedown. Castillo cracks Miyao with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Richard Castillo dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Castillo. Miyao was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Miyao looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Castillo! But no joy. Castillo takes one to the side of the head.
Castillo gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Miyao. Castillo looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Miyao avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Miyao misses with a takedown and Castillo counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Miyao is lucky that one didn't land flush. Miyao seems to be squinting his left eye. Perhaps he got a poke in that previous exchange. Castillo shows no mercy and swarms him with a barage of strikes! Miyao is backing up but Castillo catches him with a final right hook that drops him! Miyao covers up and the referee steps in to end the fight! Castillo Jumps to his feet and flashes his guns to the crowd. Oh yeah, baby! How'd you like them apples?!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Richard Castillo! Richard Castillo was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
