Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, M I Callis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Carlos Carter! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Chris Edwards and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carter misses with an attempted mid kick.
Callis closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Callis remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Callis thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Callis taking a breather here. Carter is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Callis asserts his dominance and retains side control. Carter gets back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Callis sitting and controlling from the half guard. Carter wants to sweep but Callis has passed to side control! Callis content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Callis working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Callis is trying to get an arm triangle but Carter is defending well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Carter prevents Callis from improving position. Callis works to advance to full mount. Carter defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Carter is desperately trying to improve his position but Callis has a good base and remains in mount. Carter is in a horrible position here. Callis smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Carter tries to get back to half guard but can't. Carter looks gassed! Callis controlling the pace for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Carter manages to regain half guard. Good work. Callis stalling. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee stands the fighters back up. M I Callis just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. A nice leg kick lands there from Callis. Callis throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Callis looks to land a right hand but Carter moved out of range. Callis shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Callis was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Callis tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Callis's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Callis cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
M I Callis dominated that round. That's time! Callis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Callis closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Carter to the mat! Carter manages to get full guard. Callis is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The referee stands the fighters back up. M I Callis just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Carter fails with the takedown and Callis counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Carter! Callis tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Carter is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carter in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Carter working to try and regain half guard.
Callis controlling the pace for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Callis landing shots from mount. Carter has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
I would not like to be Carter right now.
Carter is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Callis off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
The referee stands the fighters back up. M I Callis just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Carter dodges the punch combination from Callis.
Callis throws a right hand that Carter ducks under and follows up with a left that Carter also avoids with ease.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Callis scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Callis is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Carter is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
