PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Minatay Mibangon (ranked 23253 p4p, 23270 weight class) and Walay Buut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Minatay Mibangon had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 47 - 65 - 13, fighting out of Las Vegas, Minatay Mibangon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 65 - 56 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walay Buut!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Buut shoots in and bounces Mibangon off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Mibangon is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Buut passes into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buut wants to pass the guard but Mibangon is defending well.

Buut seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Buut blocks the strikes from Mibangon.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Buut dives in for a single leg takedown but Mibangon sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Buut tries for a takedown but Mibangon sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Mibangon is looking to counter with a body kick.

Mibangon shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Buut manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Buut bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mibangon's guard.

Mibangon pulls Buut in close to prevent any damage.
Mibangon trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Mibangon is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Buut slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Mibangon tries to strike from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mibangon dives in and grabs Buut's left leg, looking for a takedown. Buut pushes down on Mibangon's head and hops out.
Buut follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Walay Buut will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Buut closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mibangon to the mat! Mibangon manages to get full guard.
Mibangon not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Mibangon can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Buut controls the pace.
Mibangon is trying to control the position but Buut postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buut seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Buut is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Mibangon has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Buut throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Mibangon was covering up waiting for the punch and Buut finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Mibangon pulls Buut in to control the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Buut accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Buut controls from within his opponent's guard.
Buut's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Mibangon has Buut pulled in close to control his posture.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Buut gets a double leg takedown into Mibangon's guard.
Buut is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Buut working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Walay Buut showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Mibangon darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Buut is trying to maintain the position but Mibangon is very close to passing his half guard.
Buut is trying to get back to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mibangon not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Mibangon sitting and controlling from the half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Buut trying to control from the bottom.
Buut is holding on to half guard well.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Mibangon stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mibangon wants it to stay on the feet.
As Buut looks to move away, Mibangon throws a big counter combo but Buut just gets out of the way.
Buut misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Mibangon closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Buut quickly recovers to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Buut wants to improve his position but Mibangon is controlling well.
Buut keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Mibangon is controlling the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Mibangon has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Minatay Mibangon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Walay Buut is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Minatay Mibangon showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Buut has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
