Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Hugh Janus (ranked 1909 p4p, 3103 weight class) and Donte Pierce (ranked 141 p4p, 205 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Donte Pierce enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Hugh Janus!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Donte Pierce!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Janus looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Pierce is fending him off so far but Janus persists. Nope, Pierce circles away and we're back to standing.

Pierce instigates a clinch.
Pierce looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Pierce throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Januss head.
Janus fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Still in the clinch, Pierce scores with a nice short uppercut.
Pierce lands with a short head shot on the inside.

Pierce has Janus pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Pierce pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Janus tumbling to the mat - Pierce dives into Janus's guard.
Janus pulls Pierce in close to prevent any damage.

Pierce bucks up and tries to throw Janus off but instead Janus has got his back!

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Janus's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Janus is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Pierce defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Janus connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Pierce to escape the position.

Pierce trying to get back to his feet but Janus is in full control for now.

Janus is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Janus lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Janus.

Janus looking to break Pierce's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Pierce remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Janus will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Janus dives in and grabs Pierce's left leg, looking for a takedown. Pierce pushes down on Janus's head and hops out.

Pierce keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Pierce stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pierce wants it to stay on the feet.

Janus closes the distance and clinches up with Pierce, looking for a takedown. Janus pushes Pierce against the cage but Pierce circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hugh Janus. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Pierce has taken the fight to the clinch.
Janus has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Pierce avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Pierce wants the takedown. Janus is fighting it off but Pierce persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Janus's guard against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Janus has his hands on Pierce's head, controlling the position.
Janus might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Janus wants to control from the top but Pierce keeps moving.
Janus has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Pierce is looking to stand up but Janus isn't so interested in that idea.

Janus slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pierce can do anything to dispel that myth.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Pierce scores with a jab.
Janus closes this distance looking for a takedown but Pierce circles away.
Pierce slaps away a takedown attempt from Janus, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Janus throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pierce's waist but Pierce gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Janus off to one side.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Pierce.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Janus is defended easily by Pierce.

Janus shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Pierce is trying to defend but Janus finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Janus connects with a nice short shot to Pierce's temple.

Donte Pierce showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pierce lands a left hand that snaps the head of Janus backwards.

Pierce tightens his grip and picks Janus up, before dumping him to the ground. Janus manages to land in guard.
Janus is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Janus is trying to control. Pierce wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Pierce tries to kick Janus off in order to stand up. Janus Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
