Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ross Clay (ranked 25331 p4p, 25399 weight class) and Mathew Nielsen (ranked 454 p4p, 469 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Mathew Nielsen was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Ross Clay! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mathew Nielsen! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Chris Downing and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Clay clinches. Nielsen is trying to push Clay away but Clay has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Clay breaks the clinch.
Nielsen tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Clay swats away the attempt to clinch by Nielsen. Nielsen throws a head kick that misses. Clay seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. Clay showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Nielsen.
Clay forces Nielsen back against the cage and clinches. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nielsen is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Clay gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Nielsen wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Clay lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Nielsen makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Nielsen is looking to clinch but Clay is avoiding it.
It looked like Clay was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Nielsen.
That's one minute gone in the round. Clay throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Nielsen was covering up waiting for the punch and Clay finishes the takedown easily into guard. Nielsen wriggles free and stands up. Clay forces Nielsen back against the cage and clinches. Clay breaks from the clinch.
Nielsen feints and as Clay raises his hands in defense, Nielsen changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Nielsen decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Nielsen fails in his attempt to clinch. Clay went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Clay closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Nielsen's guard. Nielsen has his feet on Clay's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Clay misses with a head kick.
Nielsen shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Clay manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Clay manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Clay is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Nielsen looks to throw a body kick and Clay counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Clay. Nielsen controls Clay momentarily but Clay frees himself. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Clay won't allow Nielsen to sweep him here. Nielsen has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Clay wanted to stand there but Nielsen had control of the position. Nielsen not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Nielsen controlling the position. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Nielsen is on top in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Clay has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Nielsen is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Clay. Clay is breathing heavily. Nielsen is trying to get an arm triangle but Clay is defending well. Nielsen looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Mathew Nielsen dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Clay moves out of range of the strikes. Nielsen looks to clinch and Clay counters with a one-two to the body. Nielsen blocks a head kick by Clay.
Clay gets tackled into the cage by Nielsen. Nielsen maintains the clinch. Nielsen is trying to trip Clay. He has hold of a leg but Clay is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Nielsen persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Clay has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Nielsen has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Nielsen is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Clay is keeping busy. Nielsen is trying to force a seperation but Clay has the dominant position. Clay breaks the clinch.
Nielsen pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Nielsen throws a head kick but Clay moves out of range.
Nielsen with a poor takedown and Clay counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
That's one minute gone in the round. Clay throws a right and a left that both miss. Nielsen is breathing heavily. Nielsen closes the distance and clinches. Clay breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Nielsen has his takedown stuffed and Clay counters with a nice double leg into guard. Nielsen is working an open guard so Clay takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Clay shoots in and gets a takedown into Nielsen's guard. Nielsen tries to land a sweep but no joy. Nielsen wants to stand and escape but Clay is having none of it. Clay tries to free his leg and advance position but Nielsen is retaining full guard. Clay looking to sit in guard and control but Nielsen gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Clay knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nielsen on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Clay avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Nielsen tries to free his leg and advance position but Clay is retaining full guard. Nielsen slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Nielsen wants to control from the top but Clay keeps moving. Nielsen tries to stand but Clay is controlling from the bottom. Nielsen slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nielsen throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Nielsen gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Nielsen rushes Clay and presses him up against the cage. Clay pulls guard successfully.
Nielsen stands and throws Clay's legs to the side, diving into side control. Nielsen trying to control the position but Clay is working away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nielsen working the body and head with strikes. Nielsen trying to control the position but Clay is working away. Clay gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Nielsen landing strikes from the mount and Clay is in trouble! Nielsen takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Clay blocking the ground and pound. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Ross Clay will probably get the nod. That's time! Clay's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!
Clay feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Nielsen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Clay wants to control but Nielsen is keeping busy and won't allow it. Nielsen seems to be looking for submissions.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nielsen looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Nielsen stands up and beckons Clay to join him on the feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Nielsen lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Clay has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Clay and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Nielsen dives in for a single leg takedown but Clay sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Nielsen shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Nielsen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Clay gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Nielsen stands and steps away. Clay gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Ross Clay is winning the standup battle so far. Nielsen doesn't manage to clinch there - Clay circles away.
Nielsen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Nielsen seems to be working for a kimura but Clay defends the submission attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nielsen tries to stand but can't do so whilst Clay controls his leg. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Nielsen in particular looking to stall. Clay wants to get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nielsen controlling the action here. Mathew Nielsen has got the better of the ground game so far. Nielsen is looking for a kimura here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Nielsen is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Nielsen is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Nielsen keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
And that's the end of the fight! Mathew Nielsen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Nielsen has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
