Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Shart shoots in but Snowstrinski avoids the takedown attempt easily. Snowstrinski feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Snowstrinski (2) vs (0) Shart Shart escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Snowstrinski gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Snowstrinski pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Shart is keeping the position for now. Shart looking for a guillotine here but Snowstrinski defends easily.
Snowstrinski trying to control the position from guard on top but Shart is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Snowstrinski preventing the sweep. Shart has his hands on Snowstrinski's head, controlling the position. Snowstrinski stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shart swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Snowstrinski trying to control but Shart is working from the bottom. Shart controls Snowstrinski momentarily but Snowstrinski frees himself. Shart working for a triangle but Snowstrinski defends it easily.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Snowstrinski trying to control from Shart's half guard. Shart has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Our spies down at at Beating a Dead Horse to Death Again inform us that Shart has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Snowstrinski is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Shart is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Shart has escaped and now he's on top! Snowstrinski swivels though and keeps the full guard. Snowstrinski keeping moving, preventing Shart from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shart looking to pass the guard. Snowstrinski is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Snowstrinski eventually gives up the hold. Shart has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Snowstrinski is working away from the top position though. Shart tries to get to full guard but Snowstrinski has control of the leg. Snowstrinski is trying to work for a kimura but Shart is defending well.

Shart has his foot on Snowstrinski's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Snowstrinski works his way back into a safe position though. Snowstrinski wants to control from the top but Shart keeps moving. Snowstrinski passes Shart's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Shart is looking to improve his position.
Snowstrinski looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Shart has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Snowstrinski is working away from the top position though.

Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
