PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Hobert Nye (ranked 2784 p4p, 24060 weight class) and Trent Bash (ranked 311 p4p, 474 weight class). The key to victory for Hobert Nye has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hobert Nye!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Trent Bash!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Paulsen Ambrosius and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nye wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Bash misses with a takedown attempt
and Nye counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Nye lands a head shot.
A chopping leg kick lands by Nye.
Bash should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Nye throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Bash stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Bash has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Bash there as he acknowledges the shot.

Nye closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Bash quickly recovers to half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Nye seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Nye is nestled in close to Bash, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Bash looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Nye perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bash can do anything to dispel that myth.
Nye looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bash with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Nye looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Nye is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bash looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Nye working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Nye keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Bash has eaten all the pies!
Nye seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Nye scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Nye with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Nye scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Nye lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bash is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Nye pulls his head out easily.

Bash looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Nye has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Bash looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Nye in particular looking to stall.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Nye's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Nye lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bash wants to sweep but Nye has passed to side control!
Nye slows the pace down.
Nye lands a decent elbow from side control.
Bash seems a little lost for a moment, as Nye dominates the positioning.
Nye scores with a couple of short elbows.
Nye in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Nye is working Bash over with some ground and pound from side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bash is letting Nye control him for a moment.
Nye in side control lands a decent elbow.
Bash tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Nye tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Bash tries to bench press Nye off him but Nye keeps the position.
Nye controlling the position from side mount.
Bash tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Nye wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Nye slows the pace down.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Hobert Nye dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Bash takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Nye connects with a high kick.
Nye takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Nye shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Bash eats them both and turns towards Nye to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Nye drops Bash with a beautiful combination! Bash stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Nye is looking for the KO!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bash with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Nye to score with a decent uppercut.
Nye scores with a punch to the head.
Nye is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Bash dives in for a single leg takedown but Nye sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Nye scores with a nice strike.
It looks like Nye has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Trent Bash is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nye's corner calls for a 1-2. Nye obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Bash is rocked!
Bash walks into a stiff left hand from Nye.
Bash is still on wobbly legs! Can Nye finish him?
Nye lands an uppercut out of nowhere! Bash falls backwards - clearly groggy! Nye dives in and finishes the fight with more strikes for a TKO finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Hobert Nye!
A very excited looking Hobert Nye made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
