PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fred Rocha (ranked 25185 p4p, 3875 weight class) and Ephraim Shark (ranked 480 p4p, 404 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ephraim Shark!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Percy O'Donnell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shark gets a double leg takedown into Rocha's guard.

Fred Rocha seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shark tried to score with a low kick but Rocha checks it.
Rocha looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Rocha has managed to clinch.
Shark gets underhooks to prevent Rocha's takedown attempt.
Shark is trying to push Rocha away but Rocha has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Rocha goes for a takedown in the clinch but Shark prevents it.

Rocha tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Rocha breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rocha fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Shark avoids it really well and circles away.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Shark is taking a breather. Rocha says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rocha has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Shark is working away from the top position though.

Rocha has hold of Shark's hands but Shark slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Shark prevents Rocha from standing back up.
Shark perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Shark connects with a nice short shot to Rocha's temple.
Rocha wants to get back to his feet.
Shark passes the guard and advances to mount!
Rocha wants to hold on but Shark pushes him away.
Rocha is trying to stand up.

Shark has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Rocha is trying to reverse the position but instead Shark has taken his back - oops!

Shark looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Rocha wants to hold on but Shark pushes him away.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

and Shark counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Rocha will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Shark drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Shark slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

and Rocha counters with a straight right hand.
Shark throws a leg kick but Rocha sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Fred Rocha has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ephraim Shark is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Shark closes the distance and clinches.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ephraim Shark comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Shark has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
