PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Drake Slither (ranked 4052 p4p, 4268 weight class) and Freddy Orshawl (ranked 350 p4p, 361 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Drake Slither!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Freddy Orshawl!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Alan Glass and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slither throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Orshawl sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Slither fails to land the takedown.
Slither swings for the body but Orshawl moves out of range.
Slither shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Orshawl defends it nicely.
Orshawl uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Slither.
A swing and a miss from Slither.
Slither throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Orshawl digs a good body shot into Slither's ribs.
Orshawl has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Slither finds it's way round the side to connect with Orshawl's head.
Slither throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Slither connects with a body shot.
Slither tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Orshawl was well out of range. Poor timing from Slither.
Slither throws a looping overhand right but Orshawl ducks down to avoid it.
Slither is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Orshawl's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.

Orshawl closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Slither quickly recovers to half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Slither is looking for a sweep. Orshawl is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Orshawl is keen to just control but Slither is a slippery customer.

Slither wants to get back to full guard.
Slither manages to get to full guard.
Orshawl trying to control the position from guard on top but Slither is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Orshawl wants to pass the guard but Slither is keeping the position.
Orshawl preventing the sweep.

Slither keeping moving, preventing Orshawl from controlling successfully.
Orshawl is looking to work some ground and pound but Slither has wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Orshawl drops back looking for a leg! Slither is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Slither manages to kick Orshawl off! Orshawl jumps back into Slither's guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Orshawl stands up and waves to Slither to follow him.
Orshawl uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Slither.
Orshawl avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Orshawl keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Orshawl misses with a takedown attempt - Slither sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Orshawl slips a straight right by Slither.
Slither digs a good body shot into Orshawl's ribs.

Orshawl closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Slither did well to prevent Orshawl getting side control.

Slither wants to control but Orshawl is keeping busy.
Slither is pressing down on Orshawl's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Orshawl chips away with some ground and pound.
Orshawl must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Slither working for a triangle but Orshawl defends it easily.
Orshawl scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Orshawl tries to free his leg and advance position but Slither is retaining full guard.
Orshawl trying to control but Slither is working from the bottom.

Slither looking for subs off his back but Orshawl has passed one foot through into half guard.

Orshawl is trying to control the action in half guard but Slither is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Slither gets full guard.

Slither is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Slither looking to control.
Slither keeping moving, preventing Orshawl from controlling successfully.

Slither working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Orshawl doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Orshawl manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Slither is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Drake Slither will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Slither swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Slither misses with a wild body shot.
Slither throws a jab when Orshawl was well out of range.
Slither throws a body shot but no joy.
Slither jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Slither scores with a takedown into Orshawl's guard.
Orshawl wants to sweep here but Slither controlling him for the moment.
Slither chips away with some ground and pound.
Slither is looking to work some ground and pound but Orshawl has wrist control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Orshawl is trying to keep Slither in close.

Slither passes Orshawl's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Slither is working for an americana but Orshawl has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Slither was thinking about the submission.
Slither scoring with some ground and pound.
Orshawl is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Slither trying to control but Orshawl is working from the bottom.
Orshawl wants to get back to his feet but Slither is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Slither wants to control from the top but Orshawl keeps moving.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Orshawl is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Slither might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Slither with a flurry of punches that miss.

Slither drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Orshawl manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Slither has Orshawl in his guard.


Slither is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Orshawl is aware though and is defending well.
Slither not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Slither tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Slither tries to strike from the bottom.

Slither looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Orshawl wants to get up but he can't break Slither's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Drake Slither overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Slither looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Orshawl passes into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Orshawl wants to lay and pray for a moment but Slither keeps working.
Slither is looking to reverse the position.
Orshawl controlling the position from side mount.
Slither is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Orshawl's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Slither is not content to let Orshawl control the position.
Orshawl is taking a breather. Slither says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Slither regains full guard. Nicely done.
Orshawl wants to control from the top but Slither keeps moving.
Orshawl pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Slither is keeping the position for now.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Orshawl is sitting in close to Slither's body. Slither has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Orshawl is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Orshawl is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Slither.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:30 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Drake Slither!
A very excited looking Drake Slither rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
