Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Mandell (ranked 4355 p4p, 3767 weight class) and Cian Picardal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chuck Mandell has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chuck Mandell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Cian Picardal!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Steve Montenegro and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mandell stalks Picardal and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Picardal's face. Picardal staggers backwards, shaken.
Picardal connects with an inside leg kick.
Picardal fails with a takedown attempt.

Picardal rushes Mandell and presses him up against the cage.

Picardal has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mandell uses from the top position.
Mandell is looking to stand up but Picardal won't let him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Picardal is pulling down on Mandell's head. It's preventing any offense from Mandell, at least for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mandell wants to stand but Picardal has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Picardal seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Mandell knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Picardal on the ground.
Picardal bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mandell's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Picardal slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Mandell wants to get back to his feet but Picardal is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Picardal advances position into side control!

Mandell tries to escape but Picardal is in control.
Picardal throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Mandell tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Mandell wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Picardal tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Mandell is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Mandell tries to buck Picardal off but Picardal takes his back!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mandell is trapped and Picardal is scoring with shots to the head and body.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Mandell tries a head kick but it misses.
Picardal has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Mandell walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Picardal checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Chuck Mandell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Picardal tries for a takedown but Mandell sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Mandell throws a series of punches but Picardal moves out of range.
Mandell tries a head kick but it misses.

Picardal gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Mandell is trying to push Picardal away but Picardal has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
A frustrated look appears on Mandell's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Picardal pulls guard.

Picardal has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Mandell has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Picardal jumps into guard, dragging Mandell to the mat.
Picardal bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mandell's guard.

Picardal is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Picardal slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Mandell wants to get back to his feet.

Picardal stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Picardal pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mandell tries to close the distance and clinch up but Picardal swats him away and circles back towards the center.
A chopping leg kick lands by Mandell.
Mandell throws the kick towards the body but Picardal avoids it.
Picardal tries to score with a low kick but Mandell moves his leg out of the way.
Mandell misses with a double jab.

Picardal clinches.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Picardal decides to pull guard.
Picardal is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Mandell has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Picardal is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Picardal thows a huge punch but Mandell dodges it nicely.
Mandell tries to kick Picardal off but Picardal keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Picardal thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mandell's head.
Mandell is trying to stand back up but Picardal is controlling him

Picardal decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Picardal shoots in but Mandell avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Chuck Mandell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cian Picardal.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Picardal will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
A nice inside leg kick there by Mandell. That's going to slow Picardal down.
Picardal throws a head kick that half lands.
Mandell misses with a body shot.
Picardal on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Picardal tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Mandell defends well and Picardal ends up having to push Mandell into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Picardal is breathing heavily.
Picardal takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Mandell looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Mandell fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Mandell pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mandell displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Picardal.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Cian Picardal showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Mandell's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Picardal throws a sloppy head kick and Mandell moves out of range easily.

and Mandell counters with a three punch combo that has Picardal backing up. Picardal nods at Mandell to acknowledge the strikes.
Mandell lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Mandell is looking to clinch but Picardal is avoiding it.

Mandell gets tackled into the cage by Picardal. Picardal maintains the clinch.
Mandell wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Picardal manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mandell manages to get himself to full guard.

Picardal wants to finish this one by submission but Mandell is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Picardal.
Picardal sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Mandell is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Picardal wants to control the pace but Mandell is squirming around nicely.

Mandell wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Picardal.
Mandell on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Mandell tries to get out of the position.

Picardal throwing strikes here but Mandell is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Picardal misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Picardal throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Mandell because Picardal loaded up on that one.

Chuck Mandell has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Cian Picardal is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mandell is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
