PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between War Turtle (ranked 1414 p4p, 1213 weight class) and Kalle Frid (ranked 150 p4p, 124 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, War Turtle! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kalle Frid! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Percy O'Donnell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Turtle slips a jab from Frid. Frid jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
A left and a right from Frid both land. Nice combination.
It looks like War Turtle has been cut. A swing and a miss from Turtle. Turtle dodges the punch combination from Frid.
Frid gets in close and instigates a clinch. Turtle gets control of Frid's arms and successfully pulls guard. Turtle will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Frid got a little sloppy there for a moment and Turtle has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Frid has managed to get both his arms back between Turtle's legs - danger averted. Frid trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Turtle definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Turtle is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Frid got a little sloppy there for a moment and Turtle has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Frid has managed to get both his arms back between Turtle's legs - danger averted.
That's one minute gone in the round. Turtle is looking for a triangle but Frid pushes his legs off easily.
Turtle escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Frid gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Turtle is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Frid trying to control but Turtle is working from the bottom. Turtle is looking to cinch up a triangle. Frid throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Turtle's body to avoid the submission. Turtle has instead reached around Frid's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Turtle arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). War Turtle!
