PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Higanti Libat (ranked 22978 p4p, 23198 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 48 - 72 - 6, fighting out of Las Vegas, Higanti Libat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 60 - 54 - 13, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Stewart Dunkirk and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Libat feints and as Sapi raises his hands in defense, Libat changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Sapi doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Sapi has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sapi trying to control but Libat postures up.
Sapi is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Libat's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Libat's back!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Libat manages to reverse the position and now he's in Sapi's guard. Nice work there by Libat.

Libat's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Libat is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Sapi not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sapi fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Libat displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sapi.
Libat is looking to counter with a body kick.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Sapi.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Wala Sapi will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Sapi wants to lay and pray for a moment but Libat keeps working.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Sapi remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sapi in particular looking to stall.

Sapi shoots in for a takedown but Libat shows good takedown defense.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Sapi steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Sapi stuffs the takedown attempt from Libat. Libat gets slowly back to his feet.

Libat shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sapi defends it nicely.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Sapi fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Libat sprawls well initially but Sapi persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Wala Sapi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Sapi stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sapi wants it to stay on the feet.
And Sapi responds with a good body kick, but Libat manages to step out the way in time.

Poor strikes thrown by Libat there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Sapi tries to lock up and control but Libat gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Higanti Libat has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Wala Sapi is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
