PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Noah Schaffer (ranked 3705 p4p, 3701 weight class) and Fredi Falker (ranked 235 p4p, 236 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Noah Schaffer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Fredi Falker!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Sam Margolis and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Falker tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Schaffer defends well and Falker ends up having to push Schaffer into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Falker walks into a left hand.
Schaffer misses with a jab, cross combination.
Falker avoids a punch combination nicely.

Schaffer tries to keep at a distance but Falker has taken the fight into the clinch.

Falker is trying to trip Schaffer. He has hold of a leg but Schaffer is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Falker persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Falker trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Falker is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Falker drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Falker jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Schaffer not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Schaffer is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Falker trying to control but Schaffer is working from the bottom.
Falker stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Schaffer swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Falker trying to control the position from guard on top but Schaffer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Schaffer can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Falker controls the pace.
Falker wants to control from the top but Schaffer keeps moving.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Schaffer throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Falker.
Falker wants to counter with a clinch but Schaffer pushes him away.
Falker dives in for a single leg takedown but Schaffer sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Schaffer throws a right and a left that both miss.
Falker tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Schaffer defends well and Falker ends up having to push Schaffer into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Noah Schaffer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fredi Falker.
Schaffer lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Falker is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Falker shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Falker was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Schaffer is looking to reverse the position.
Falker wants to take a breather but Schaffer manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Falker.

Falker pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Schaffer is keeping the position for now.
Schaffer wants to stand up but Falker is controlling him.
Schaffer is trying to keep Falker in close.
Falker passes Schaffer's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Falker is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Schaffer sees it coming and defends easily.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Noah Schaffer will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Falker shoots for a takedown but Schaffer saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Falker drives through and clinches with Schaffer against the cage.
Schaffer looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Falker has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Schaffer avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Schaffer's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Falker breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Danga de danga de dang - Schaffer scores with a four punch combination!
The fighters circle momentarily. Schaffer darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Falker tries to score a power double leg takedown but Schaffer sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Falker somewhat.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Schaffer tries to bum rush Falker with a series of wild strikes but Falker uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Falker decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Schaffer wants to control but Falker is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Falker content to control rather than advance.
Schaffer is looking to improve his position.
Falker is keen to just control but Schaffer is a slippery customer.

Schaffer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Falker on the ground.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Schaffer is trying to get back to full guard.

Schaffer looks to land a combination. Falker sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Falker closes the distance and clinches up with Schaffer, looking for a takedown. Falker pushes Schaffer against the cage but Schaffer circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Schaffer digs a good hook to Falker's body.

Falker moves into the clinch.
Schaffer tries to break free but Falker pushes him back against the cage.
Schaffer is pressed up against the cage. Falker has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Schaffer down to the mat. Schaffer avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Noah Schaffer is winning the standup battle so far.
Falker is breathing heavily.
Donk. Schaffer catches Falker right on the button with a cross.
Falker fails with the takedown.
Schaffer is looking for a counter combo.

Falker takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
A right-left combo lands from Schaffer.
Schaffer's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Schaffer duly obliges.
Schaffer connects with a single shot there.

Schaffer shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Falker eats them both and turns towards Schaffer to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

and Schaffer counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Schaffer wants to break the clinch but can't.

Schaffer is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Falker can do to turn this around?
Falker keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Schaffer's efforts to push away.

Schaffer pushes Falker off looking to stand but Falker dives back in and keeps control.
Schaffer tries to get to full guard but Falker has control of the leg.

Falker seems to be working for a kimura but Schaffer defends the submission attempt.
Falker prevents Schaffer from improving his position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Falker tries to pass the half guard into mount. Schaffer knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Schaffer punching from the bottom.
Falker moves into full mount! Schaffer won't be happy about that!
Schaffer is desperately trying to improve his position but Falker has a good base and remains in mount.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Falker jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Schaffer manages to avoid the submission attempt.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Fredi Falker.
I think Schaffer has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
