Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Jones (ranked 5136 p4p, 4665 weight class) and Elliot Carney (ranked 437 p4p, 398 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Johnny Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Elliot Carney!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Aafke Stam and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Carney looking for submissions off his back.
Jones slows the pace down in half guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Jones postures up and lands a big shot to Carney's brow.

Carney is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Jones's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Carney wants to control but Jones is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Jones stuffs the takedown.
Jones tries to counter by clinching up but Carney breaks away and moves out of range.

Jones feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Jones stands up over Carney, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Carney looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Jones puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Jones seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Carney is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Jones scores with a couple of nice shots.

Jones takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jones takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Jones has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Carney takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Jones seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Carney for as long as he can get away with.
Jones is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Carney can do to turn this around?
Jones postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Carney looks a forlorn figure.

Jones lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Jones connects with a nice short shot to Carney's temple.

Jones lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Jones takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Carney has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Jones is on him like a limpet, forcing Carney back against the cage.

Jones has Carney pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Jones pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Carney tumbling to the mat - Jones dives into Carney's guard.

Jones is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Jones seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Carney not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
A combination from Carney does no damage.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jones.

Jones closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Jones in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
The referee asks Jones politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Jones prefers to stall for the moment though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Johnny Jones showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jones, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
