This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 10 wins and 13 losses; Elim Garak! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 31 wins and 21 losses; Francisco Ngannou! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, William Peck and Robert Douchet.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.
Ngannou shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Garak (0) vs (2) Ngannou Ngannou stalling. It looks like Ngannou might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Garak preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Ngannou is figuring out what he wants to do next. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Ngannou's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Garak holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Garak wants to control but Ngannou is keeping busy.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Ngannou content to control rather than advance. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Garak tries to roll over but Ngannou keeps him under control. Garak is concentrating on defense, preventing Ngannou from advancing position.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Ngannou stalling. Let's hope that Ngannou has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Garak is looking to control Ngannou's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Garak avoid being mounted?
 That's five minutes gone in the round. Ngannou looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Garak is trying is best to control the position here. Garak has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ngannou is working away from the top position though. Garak is trying to get back to full guard.
 That's six minutes gone in the round. Garak holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Garak is trying to maintain the position but Ngannou is very close to passing his half guard.
 That's seven minutes gone in the round. Ngannou keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. More stalling from Ngannou.
 That's eight minutes gone in the round. Ngannou with more of the same as he continues to hold on.
 That's nine minutes gone in the round. Garak wants to improve his position but Ngannou is controlling well.
Garak is controlling Ngannou's trapped leg to prevent Ngannou from advancing to side control. Garak continues to stall.
 That's ten minutes gone in the round. Garak trying to control from the bottom.
Garak keeps control of the position for the meantime. Ngannou slows the pace down in half guard.
 That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Garak is trying to maintain the position but Ngannou is very close to passing his half guard. Ngannou with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Ngannou passes into side control, despite Garak's attempt to control the position.

 That's twelve minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Garak struggling a bit here. Garak is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control. Garak seems a little lost for a moment, as Ngannou dominates the positioning. Garak manages to work his way to half guard, despite Ngannou's best efforts.
 That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Garak controlling the position for now. Garak makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Garak. Ngannou slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Ngannou.
 That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Ngannou pushes down on Garak's leg and manages to get into half guard. Garak has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ngannou is working away from the top position though. Ngannou sitting and controlling from the half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Ngannou wins on points by 5 to 0. Francisco Ngannou seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website. |
