This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 41 wins and 50 losses; Dragon Li Chai! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 38 wins and 17 losses; Lou Gotch! The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious?
Gotch throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Chai was covering up waiting for the punch and Gotch finishes the takedown easily into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Chai (0) vs (2) Gotch Gotch stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chai swivels though and keeps the full guard. We've been hearing good reports from Chai's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Gotch stopping the sweep attempt from Chai. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gotch looking to pass the guard. Gotch is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Chai has Gotch pulled in close to control his posture. Gotch showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Gotch advances to half guard.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Gotch content to control rather than advance. Gotch trying to pass the guard but Chai defending well. Gotch is still trying to improve position.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Gotch keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Chai controlling the position well. Gotch performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Chai has his hands clasped together around Gotch's back. He's all about the action. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Gotch is thwarting Chai's attempts to control the position. Gotch seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Chai trying to control from the bottom.
 That's five minutes gone in the round. Gotch is looking to advance position but Chai won't allow it. Gotch with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Let's hope that Gotch has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. It looks like Gotch might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Chai is trying to control but can't.
Gotch works his way into full mount! Score +3 for passing guard: Chai (0) vs (5) Gotch
 That's six minutes gone in the round. Chai regains half guard. Gotch is taking a breather. Chai says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Chai moves into full guard.
Gotch stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chai swivels though and keeps the full guard.
 That's seven minutes gone in the round. Chai looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Gotch puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Gotch controlling the pace.
 That's eight minutes gone in the round. Chai is trying to control but can't.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Chai wants to get back to full guard. My spies in HELLCADEMY inform me that Gotch has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
 That's nine minutes gone in the round. Gotch content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Gotch working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Chai's thigh. Chai counters though and makes it back to full guard. Chai seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
 That's ten minutes gone in the round. Gotch is pushing down on Chai's leg trying to pass to half guard. Chai is fighting to maintain full guard but Gotch has managed to sneak the leg through. Gotch slows the pace down in half guard. Chai wants to control but Gotch passes into side.

 That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Gotch takes a little break here. Chai wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
 That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Chai can't do much from the bottom here. Gotch staying calm. Gotch taking a break here but Chai is having none of it and regains half guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
 That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Gotch sitting and controlling from the half guard. Chai is looking to improve his position.
 That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Gotch is looking to pass Chai's guard but actually Chai recovers to full guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Gotch wins on points by 8 to 0. An out of breath Lou Gotch thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career. |
