This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 17 wins and 18 losses; Sea Snake! The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Jiurgite feints and as Snake raises his hands in defense, Jiurgite changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Snake (0) vs (2) Jiurgite Snake looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Jiurgite puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Snake makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Snake. Jiurgite controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Snake keeping moving, preventing Jiurgite from controlling successfully. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Snake working a defensive guard but Jiurgite manages to pass into side control anyway.
Score +3 for passing guard: Snake (0) vs (5) Jiurgite Jiurgite has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Tap Out Tuesday. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Jiurgite tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jiurgite has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jiurgite is working to tighten his grip on Snake's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Snake has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Jiurgite is really squeezing tight and eventually Snake passes out! Jiurgite breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Ze Jiurgite! |
