Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kimmo Peramaki (ranked 363 p4p, 2385 weight class) and Mehdi Kanaani (ranked 45 p4p, 247 weight class). Kanaani is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Dr. Dre ft. Snoop Dogg - Nuthin' But A G Thang. Mehdi Kanaani struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 157.2lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 33 - 32 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mehdi Kanaani!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Elvis Blanc and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Peramaki moves into the clinch.
Peramaki scores with a shoulder strike.

Peramaki gets control of Kanaani's arms and successfully pulls guard. Peramaki will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Peramaki seems keen to control Kanaani's posture.
Kanaani with a flurry of punches that miss.
Kanaani has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Peramaki is proving hard to escape from.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Peramaki tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Peramaki manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kanaani manages to get himself to full guard.

Peramaki's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Peramaki tries to free his leg and advance position but Kanaani is retaining full guard.
Peramaki is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Peramaki is pushing down on Kanaani's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kanaani is fighting to maintain full guard but Peramaki has managed to sneak the leg through.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Peramaki in particular looking to stall.

Peramaki will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Peramaki is working for a kimura but Kanaani is defending it quite comfortably.
We've been hearing good reports from Peramaki's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Peramaki uses his free foot to push down on Kanaani's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Kanaani.
Peramaki content just to control the position here.

Peramaki throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Peramaki has hold of Kanaani's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Kanaani manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Peramaki throws some wild stikes that Kanaani manages to avoid easily.
Peramaki thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Kanaani is in all sorts of trouble here.
Kanaani really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Peramaki. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Peramaki is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Kanaani is surviving well by controlling Peramaki's body position as best he can.
Kanaani is desperately trying to improve his position but Peramaki has a good base and remains in mount.
Peramaki seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Kanaani is holding on tight.
Kanaani is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Peramaki mounts Kanaani! Really nice guard pass there!

Kanaani has left one of his arms exposed and Peramaki doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Kanaani screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
