The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hall leaves Nastula with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Hall wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Hall fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Nastula sprawls well initially but Hall persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Nastula makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Nastula. Hall passes into half guard. Hall uses his free foot to push down on Nastula's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Nastula. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hall looking for a guillotine from mount but Nastula is having none of it. Nastula is looking to improve his position but Hall isn't that keen on the idea.
That's one minute gone in the round. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nastula can do anything to dispel that myth. Hall manages to capitalize on a mistake by Nastula to take his back!
Hall is cranking Nastula's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Nastula! He's tightened the choke and Nastula is tapping out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Richard Hall! Richard Hall seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
