Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alex Burns (ranked 4224 p4p, 3853 weight class) and Payton Trojan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alex Burns! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Payton Trojan! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Burns swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Trojan dives in and grabs Burns's left leg, looking for a takedown. Burns pushes down on Trojan's head and hops out. Trojan looks for a takedown but Burns sprawls well. Burns fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Trojan drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Trojan wants to control but Burns is keeping him busy. Burns knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Trojan on the ground. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Burns takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Trojan has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Trojan gets to mount! Burns was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Trojan has control of Burns's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Burns regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Trojan trying to control but he's not successful this time. Burns tries to get back to half guard but can't. Burns tries to hold on but Trojan pushes him away. Burns is looking to get to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Burns is working hard here to advance position. Burns defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Trojan. Trojan trying to control but Burns is having none of it. Burns is wriggling around trying to escape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Burns wants to hold on but Trojan pushes him away. Burns can't escape the position.
Trojan lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Burns hang on? Burns on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Burns tries to get out of the position. Trojan wants to control the pace but Burns is squirming around nicely. Trojan is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Trojan wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it. Burns is trying desperately to improve position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Trojan pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Burns wants to control but Trojan is having none of it. Trojan punishing his opponent with strikes. Burns tries to hold on but Trojan pushes him away. Burns tries to control the position but Trojan now has his back.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Trojan controls the action. Burns is really stuck here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Payton Trojan dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Trojan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Trojan has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Burns shoots for a takedown but Trojan saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Burns misses with an attempted mid kick.
Burns tries to bum rush Trojan with a series of wild strikes but Trojan uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Burns instigates a clinch. Trojan tries to pull guard but Burns won't allow it.

Burns is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Burns. That's going to take a lot out of him. Burns gets control of Trojan's arms and successfully pulls guard. Burns will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Payton Trojan has got the better of the ground game so far. Burns can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Trojan controls the pace. Trojan scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Trojan looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Trojan is thwarting Burns's attempts to control the position. Burns is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Trojan is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Trojan is trying to control the action in half guard but Burns is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Burns is trying to control but can't.
Trojan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Burns does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Burns is looking for a sweep. Trojan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. No luck for Burns with that takedown attempt. Burns swings for the body but Trojan moves out of range.
Trojan connects with a solid leg kick. Trojan is looking to land body kicks. Burns is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Trojan. Burns tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Trojan defends well and Burns ends up having to push Trojan into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Trojan is defending well against a takedown attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Burns breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Trojan connects with a looping right hand.
Burns clinches up against the cage. Trojan wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Burns manages to break the clinch.
Trojan has his takedown stuffed and Burns counters by moving into the clinch. Trojan is breathing heavily. Trojan struggles to land a body shot inside as Burns controls his hands.

Burns pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Nice takedown defense from Trojan. No joy for Burns on that attempt. A punch combination from Burns misses.

That's going to take a lot out of him. Burns fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Alex Burns is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Trojan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Burns shoots in looking for a takedown but Trojan manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Burns's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Burns throws a series of punches but Trojan avoids them all with ease. Trojan scores with a head kick.

Burns looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit. Burns digs a good body shot into Trojan's ribs.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Burns throws a head kick that misses. Burns instigates a clinch. Burns has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Trojan is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Burns gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Trojan regains guard.

Burns trying to control the position from guard on top but Trojan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Trojan bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Burns's guard. Trojan tries to free his leg and advance position but Burns is retaining full guard.

Burns is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Trojan defends well. Burns tries to land a sweep but no joy. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
