PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Volodymyr Kersikov (ranked 203 p4p, 629 weight class) and Frank Dux (ranked 18 p4p, 57 weight class). Kersikov comes to the cage accompanied by DEF LEPPARD - Pour Some Sugar On Me. Dux is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Bloodsport. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 1, fighting out of New York, Volodymyr Kersikov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Frank Dux!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Shirou Masuda and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dux shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

The fight stays on the outside here - Dux looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Dux moves into the clinch successfully.

Kersikov's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Dux is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dux accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Dux working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Dux connects with a nice short shot to Kersikov's temple.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That was a close round but I would say that Volodymyr Kersikov will probably get the nod.
That's time! Kersikov's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Dux is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Kersikov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Dux is working away from the top position though.

Kersikov sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Dux is pressing down on Kersikov's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kersikov is holding on for now.

Dux is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Dux looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kersikov with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Dux is trying to control the action in half guard but Kersikov is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Kersikov slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Kersikov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Kersikov seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Dux is fighting to break Kersikov's control of his arms but Kersikov is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Dux got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kersikov has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Dux has managed to get both his arms back between Kersikov's legs - danger averted.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Kersikov swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Dux.
Dux fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kersikov avoids it really well and circles away.
Kersikov appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Dux takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Dux has his takedown stuffed
and Dux takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

and Kersikov counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

And that's the end of the fight!
Volodymyr Kersikov showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Kersikov has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
