Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rhett Colett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rich Shappens!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Sergei Dronov and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shappens throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Colett counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Shappens tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Colett paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A head kick by Shappens misses
and Colett cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Shappens misses with a double jab
letting Colett counter with a right hand.
Shappens gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Shappens tries for a takedown. No joy.
Shappens breaks the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A combination from Shappens does no damage.
Shappens fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Colett checks it well.
Shappens shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Colett as he avoids it easily.
A little feinted left hand from Colett on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Colett tries to sprawl but Shappens drives through with a takedown into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Shappens sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Shappens throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Shappens stands up out of the half guard.
Shappens scores with a takedown into Colett's guard.
Colett is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Shappens presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Shappens breaks the clinch.
Colett circles away from the clinch attempt
and Colett cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Colett has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
It looks like Rhett Colett has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A low kick from Shappens is predictable there
and Colett connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Shappens is trying hard to land a takedown here. Colett sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Rhett Colett has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rich Shappens.
Shappens tries to clinch but Colett moves away
and Colett counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Shappens's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Shappens duly obliges.
Shappens throws a series of strikes that have Colett backpedaling.
Colett is rocked!
Shappens shoots in for a takedown. He's got it... He's hoisted his opponent over his head and is carrying him over to the other end of the mat. The crowd roars in approval and Shappens slams his opponent to the mat. OH, that is naaaaaasty! He's out! Shappens lands a punch to his unconscious victim for good measure before the ref has time to call the fight.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Slam). Rich Shappens!
