The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Norman manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Richardson on his heels. He'll look to pass Richardson's guard now, I'm sure. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Norman (2) vs (0) Richardson Richardson is adopting a defensive guard. Richardson is trying to keep Norman in close.
Richardson trying to control the position here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. We've been hearing good reports from Norman's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Richardson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Norman controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Norman is fighting to break Richardson's control of his arms but Richardson is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Richardson's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Richardson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Norman controlling from mount. Norman seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Richardson for as long as he can get away with.

Richardson sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Richardson is looking for a sweep. Norman is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Norman performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Richardson won't allow Norman to pass to mount.
