The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Goodman has closed the distance and engaged Carvalho in a clinch.
Carvalho is looking for a takedown. Goodman manages to pull guard.
Goodman keeping full guard, as Carvalho tries to pass. Goodman is pulling down on Carvalho's head to control his posture. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Carvalho tries to free his leg and advance position but Goodman is retaining full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. My spies in Marquis Training Center inform me that Carvalho has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
That's one minute gone in the round. Carvalho trying to control the position from guard on top but Goodman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Goodman looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Carvalho wants to pass the guard but Goodman is keeping the position. Goodman wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Goodman is trying to keep Carvalho in close.

Carvalho is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Goodman defends it well. Carvalho wants to free his trapped foot but Goodman is holding on for dear life with his legs. Goodman is trying to control but can't.
Carvalho is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
