Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Carl Holmes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sonny Hawkins!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, David Schapiro and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hawkins misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Hawkins has Holmes up against the cage in a clinch.
Hawkins keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Holmes's efforts to push away.
Hawkins is struggling to control the position.
Holmes is working Hawkins over against the cage.

Holmes breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sonny Hawkins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hawkins throws a nice looking combination but Holmes bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Holmes drops down looking for a counter takedown but Hawkins sprawls and moves away.
Hawkins scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Hawkins tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Holmes manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Holmes moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Holmes forces Hawkins back against the cage and clinches.

Good anti-grappling being displayed by Holmes as Hawkins tries to tie him up.
Holmes tries to break the clinch but Hawkins is controlling the position.

Holmes pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Holmes.

Holmes stands up.

Holmes scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Hawkins tries to buck Holmes off but Holmes is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Holmes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Holmes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hawkins is trying to control Holmes's posture but Holmes avoids it.

Holmes decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Hawkins clinches up against the cage.
Holmes tries to circle away but Hawkins has him pinned against the cage.

Holmes breaks from the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hawkins throws a right hand that Holmes ducks under and follows up with a left that Holmes also avoids with ease.
Hawkins fails in his attempt to clinch.

Holmes shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Hawkins manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Hawkins wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Holmes manages to pass to side control.

Holmes is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hawkins can do anything to dispel that myth.
Holmes's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Hawkins wants to get back to full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Carl Holmes dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Holmes shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Holmes was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Holmes has hold of Hawkins's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Hawkins seems comfortable defending it but Holmes has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Hawkins is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Hawkins is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Holmes couldn't care less - he's delighted!
