PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Curtis Calderon (ranked 24188 p4p, 25124 weight class) and Randy Rebar (ranked 538 p4p, 532 weight class). Curtis Calderon had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 186.2lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Curtis Calderon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Randy Rebar!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Tiny Johnson and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Rebar feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Rebar looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Calderon can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rebar controls the pace.

Rebar got a little sloppy there for a moment and Calderon has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rebar has managed to get both his arms back between Calderon's legs - danger averted.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Calderon has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Rebar is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Calderon.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Rebar working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

Rebar has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Rebar is nestled in close to Calderon, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Rebar uses his free foot to push down on Calderon's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Calderon.

It looks like Rebar might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Rebar closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Calderon to the mat! Calderon manages to get full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Randy Rebar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Rebar is taking a breather. Calderon says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Well Rebar has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
