The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Pancake tries for a takedown but Hestler sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Pancake tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hestler defends well and Pancake ends up having to push Hestler into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch. Pancake tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hestler smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tobias Pancake. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pancake is trying hard to land a takedown here. Hestler sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Hestler drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Pancake defends it well. Hestler shoots in from a long way out. Pancake seems a little lost for a moment, as Hestler dominates the positioning. Pancake might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Hestler's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's seven minutes gone in the round. It looks like Hestler might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Pancake is looking for a sweep.
