PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Danilo Salinas (ranked 4195 p4p, 4459 weight class) and Fred Jose (ranked 419 p4p, 432 weight class). Fred Jose is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Danilo Salinas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fred Jose!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Chris Edwards and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Salinas gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
enabling Jose to counter with a crisp jab.
Salinas with a poor takedown
and Jose counters with a nice uppercut.
Salinas shoots and misses
and Jose counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Danilo Salinas. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Jose counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Jose lands a nice shot that snaps Salinas's head back.
Jose scores with a sloppy right hand. Salinas should have avoided that one.

Salinas fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Jose sprawls well initially but Salinas persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Salinas thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Salinas is taking a breather. Jose says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Jose is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Salinas takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jose can do anything to dispel that myth.
Salinas not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Salinas is keen to just control but Jose is a slippery customer.
Salinas is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Jose is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Salinas content to control rather than advance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Salinas uses his free foot to push down on Jose's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Jose.

Salinas has control of Jose's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Jose regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Salinas can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jose is looking to escape.

Salinas is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Jose has managed to escape the submission attempt.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jose is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Salinas connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Jose keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Salinas unloads with some shots from mount but Jose bucks and avoids them well.
Jose is in a horrible position here. Salinas smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Salinas shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jose as he jumps to the side.
Jose tries to counter by closing the distance.
Salinas takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Salinas takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Jose staying out of range there.
Salinas shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jose as he avoids it easily.
Donk. Jose catches Salinas right on the button with a cross.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salinas closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Jose slaps away a takedown attempt from Salinas, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Jose leaves Salinas with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Jose works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Salinas drops down looking for an ankle pick but Jose pulls his leg out and moves away.

Salinas tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jose smiles and moves away.

Salinas shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Jose is trying to defend but Salinas finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Salinas perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Jose is trying to maintain the position but Salinas is very close to passing his half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Salinas wants to control but Jose is keeping him busy.

Fred Jose showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Jose digs a right hand into Salinas's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Salinas's gas tank.

Salinas is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Salinas has his foot on Jose's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jose works his way back into a safe position though.
Jose really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Salinas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Salinas manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jose manages to get himself to full guard.

Jose won't allow Salinas to pass to mount.
Salinas is trying to control the action in half guard but Jose is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Salinas throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Salinas jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Jose manages to avoid the submission attempt.
The strikes coming from Salinas are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Salinas wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jose keeps working.
Jose tries to buck Salinas off but Salinas is having none of it.
Salinas is looking to take a break and control but Jose is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Salinas jumps guard but Jose turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Salinas has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Jose after a bit of a struggle.
Salinas tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jose smiles and moves away.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Danilo Salinas.
I think Salinas has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
