PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Xander Scott (ranked 1684 p4p, 1769 weight class) and Norman Jalisco (ranked 202 p4p, 207 weight class). Scott comes into the arena with I DON'T GIVE A FUCK blaring out of the sound system. On his way into the cage it seems that Xander Scott has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Xander Scott seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xander Scott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Norman Jalisco!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Alan Glass and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jalisco swinging wildly here.
Scott waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Jalisco.
Scott lands with a shot to the body.
Scott misses with a lunging right hand
and Jalisco counters with a nice body shot.
A cross from Scott lands.

It looks like Norman Jalisco has been cut.
Scott misses with a looping right.
Jalisco is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Scott with a body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Scott throws an off balance right hand
and Jalisco counters with a left and a right that stings Scott.
Jalisco pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Scott has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Jalisco bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Xander Scott seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Scott is looking to clinch but Jalisco is avoiding it.

Scott tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jalisco was well out of range. Poor timing from Scott.

Jalisco has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Scott throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Scott rushes Jalisco and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Scott lands a hook that snaps the head of Jalisco backwards.

Scott swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Scott swings wildly with an uppercut but Jalisco uses good head movement to avoid it.
Scott will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Jalisco up against the cage.

Jalisco is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Scott tries a body shot but Jalisco blocks it.
Jalisco tries to circle away but Scott has him pinned against the cage.
Scott is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Jalisco to keep the fight standing.
Scott pushes Jalisco back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Scott makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Jalisco is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Scott lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Jalisco.
Scott jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Jalisco walks away with a smile on his face. Scott gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Xander Scott. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Jalisco counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Xander Scott will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Jalisco breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Scott punishes Jalisco's body with a nice straight punch.
Jalisco moves out of range of the strikes.

Scott throws the left hand but Jalisco avoids the punch easily.
A little jabbing left from Jalisco on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Scott throws a jab but it's blocked by Jalisco.

and Jalisco counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Scott thinking.

Jalisco takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Scott throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Jalisco looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Jalisco throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Scott throws a hook to the side of Jalisco's head but Jalisco sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Despite the aggression on Jalisco's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Scott misses the shot to the body.

Scott fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Norman Jalisco seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Scott throws a hook but Jalisco blocks it.
Good exchange - Scott coming out on top.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Scott tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Jalisco's elbow.
Scott tries to pull guard but Jalisco forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Scott has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Jalisco blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Scott lands an uppercut.
Scott misses with the head strike.
Scott goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Scott has a couple of punches blocked by Jalisco.
Scott swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Scott scores with a nice hook to the head.
Jalisco wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Jalisco wants to break free but Scott has control.
Scott tries to pull guard but Jalisco holds him up against the cage and eventually Scott drops back down to his feet.

Scott is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jalisco can do to turn this around?

Scott jumps guard.
Jalisco must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Scott is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Jalisco tries to kick Scott off but Scott keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Scott is working for a submission of some sort.
Jalisco really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Scott. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Scott is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jalisco is just riding it out for now. Scott eventually gives up the hold.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jalisco swats away the attempt to clinch by Scott.
Jalisco uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Scott.
Scott connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Jalisco's hands.
Jalisco on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Jalisco lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Norman Jalisco spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
