Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Elliot Carney (ranked 4943 p4p, 25545 weight class) and Tom Drechsler (ranked 398 p4p, 440 weight class). Drechsler has chosen Back in Black as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Elliot Carney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tom Drechsler!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Marco Blurström and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Drechsler.
Carney tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Drechsler defends well and Carney ends up having to push Drechsler into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Carney pulls guard.
Drechsler postures up in Carney's guard and throws a big left but Carney blocks it.
Carney is trying to keep Drechsler in close.
Drechsler is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carney is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Carney had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Drechsler defends it easily.
Drechsler is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Carney controls Drechsler momentarily but Drechsler frees himself.

Drechsler scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Carney wants to clinch.

Carney dives in for a single leg takedown but Drechsler sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Carney manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Carney is on top in guard.

Carney tries to free his leg and advance position but Drechsler is retaining full guard.
Drechsler is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Drechsler manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Carney manages to get himself to full guard.


Drechsler drops back looking for a leg! Carney is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Carney manages to kick Drechsler off! Drechsler jumps back into Carney's guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Drechsler slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Carney has Drechsler pulled in close to control his posture.
Drechsler is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Carney controls Drechsler momentarily but Drechsler frees himself.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Carney's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Drechsler wants to get back to striking at distance but Carney won't allow it.

Carney is pressed up against the cage. Drechsler has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Carney down to the mat. Carney avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Drechsler shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Carney sprawls well. Carney wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Drechsler gets slowly back to his feet.

Carney fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Drechsler avoids it really well and circles away.

Carney jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Drechsler shoots in for a takedown but Carney shows good takedown defense.
Drechsler tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Carney defends well and Drechsler ends up having to push Carney into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Drechsler sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

A little feinted left hand from Carney on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Drechsler defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Carney.

Drechsler moves into the clinch.
Carney is looking to break free of the clinch but Drechsler has double underhooks.
Carney tries to score a body lock takedown but Drechsler shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Drechsler is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Carney has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Drechsler after a bit of a struggle.

Tom Drechsler showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Drechsler throws the kick towards the body but Carney avoids it.
Carney has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Drechsler finds it's way round the side to connect with Carney's head.

Drechsler has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Carney is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Carney is trying to push Drechsler away but Drechsler has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Carney takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Drechsler misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
As Drechsler tries to get set, Carney tries to push him back and clinch up but Drechsler manages to avoid the attempt.

Drechsler stalks Carney and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Carney's face. Carney staggers backwards, shaken.
Carney tries to score a power double leg takedown but Drechsler sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Carney somewhat.
Drechsler dives in for a single leg takedown but Carney sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Carney lands a jab to Drechsler's midsection.
Carney tries to clinch up but Drechsler circles away and keeps his distance.

Drechsler throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Drechsler fails to land the takedown.
Carney misses the shot to the body.
Drechsler pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Drechsler throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Carney's waist but Carney gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Drechsler off to one side.

Carney shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Carney was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Elliot Carney has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Tom Drechsler is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Carney tries to score with some ground and pound. Drechsler controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Well Drechsler has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
