PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jee Song Park (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Erin Melcher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Park comes to the cage accompanied by Click Click Boom. Erin Melcher struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 156.2lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Erin Melcher told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jee Song Park!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Erin Melcher!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Park shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Melcher but Melcher pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Park rushes Melcher and presses him up against the cage.
Park tries to circle away but Melcher has him pinned against the cage.

Park breaks from the clinch.

Melcher feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Park wants to get back to his feet but Melcher is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Melcher wants to control from the top but Park keeps moving.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Melcher.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Melcher shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Park manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Park creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Melcher's defenses.
Melcher has Park pressed against the cage, preventing Park from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Park is looking to break free of the clinch but Melcher has double underhooks.
Melcher tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Park has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

and Melcher counters by moving into the clinch.

Park tries a head kick but it misses.
Park misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Park gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Park shoots in and drives through. Melcher sprawls well.

Melcher clinches up with Park and pushes him back against the cage.
Park has had enough of the clinch but Melcher keeps him there for the moment.

Melcher tightens his grip and picks Park up, before dumping him to the ground. Park manages to land in guard.

Melcher throws and elbow that misses. Park uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Melcher's guard. Nice move by Park!

Park gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Park misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Park misses with a few strikes there.
Park tries to clinch but Melcher moves away
and Melcher counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Park is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Melcher takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Let's hope that Melcher has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Melcher can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Park is looking to escape.
Park holds on to Melcher around his waist, trying desperately to prevent any attacks.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Park is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Park is staying active underneath Melcher, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Melcher connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Park tries to close the distance and clinch but Melcher swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Park wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Melcher prevents Park from breaking the clinch.
Melcher misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Park is trying to break the clinch but Melcher is controlling him.
Park has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
