Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Aleksandr Zuev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 44 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dwight Shrute!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Chris Downing and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zuev throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Shrute.
Shrute misses with a takedown attempt - Zuev sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Shrute misses with a straight right.
Zuev looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Zuev decides to stand and escape the position.
Zuev scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Good leg kick by Zuev.
Shrute takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Zuev thumps Shrute with a low kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Shrute misses with a takedown attempt
and Zuev counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Nice shot by Zuev.
Shrute is rocked!
Zuev shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Shrute is trying to defend but Zuev finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Shrute is still in real trouble! Can Zuev finish him?
Zuev gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
That's one minute gone in the round.
Shrute wants to stay close but Zuev steps back to make room for something. Shrute seems frozen to the spot and bam! huge swing of the leg from Zuev and Shrute drops like he has been shot! A huge head kick and it's all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:09 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Aleksandr Zuev!
Aleksandr Zuev bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
