PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jardani Jovonovich (ranked 1400 p4p, 1025 weight class) and Richie Alaska (ranked 179 p4p, 142 weight class). Alaska has chosen A Long December - Counting Crows as his entrance music. Richie Alaska told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jardani Jovonovich!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Richie Alaska!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Kenichi Hosakawa and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jovonovich tries to close the distance and clinch but Alaska swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Jovonovich uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Alaska.
Alaska ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Jovonovich doesn't manage to clinch there - Alaska circles away.
Alaska tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Jovonovich closes the distance and pushes Alaska back into the cage.

Jovonovich got a little sloppy there for a moment and Alaska has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jovonovich has managed to get both his arms back between Alaska's legs - danger averted.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Alaska looks to score with a jab to the body but Jovonovich is just out of range.
Alaska has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Jovonovich is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Alaska lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Jovonovich at a distance.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Alaska stalls.
Jovonovich is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Alaska is keeping busy.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Jovonovich quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Alaska has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Jovonovich celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
