This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 38 wins and 35 losses; Uncle Abner! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 21 wins and 41 losses; Walter Wiener! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and Stewart Dunkirk.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. The fight moves into the clinch position. Wiener tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Abner smiles and moves away.
Wiener tries to keep at a distance but Abner has taken the fight into the clinch. Wiener is looking for a takedown. Wiener goes for a takedown attempt but Abner pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Uncle Abner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Walter Wiener. Abner gets in close and instigates a clinch. Wiener is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wiener jumps guard but Abner stands there with Wiener around his waist. Wiener gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Abner has picked Wiener up - he's going for a ride! Abner dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Abner (2) vs (0) Wiener
That's one minute gone in the round. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Abner in particular looking to stall. Abner seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Wiener does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Abner stalling. Abner trying to control the action but Wiener is working from the bottom. Abner tries to pass the half guard into mount. Wiener knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Abner looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Abner prevents Wiener from improving his position. Wiener is not content to let Abner control the position. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Abner looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Abner content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wiener is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Abner passes into side control, despite Wiener's attempt to control the position.
Score +3 for passing guard: Abner (5) vs (0) Wiener Wiener manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Abner is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Well, if Abner is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Wiener wants to sweep but Abner has passed to side control! Score +3 for passing guard: Abner (8) vs (0) Wiener Abner tries to move to mount but Wiener blocks the move with his legs. Wiener tries to buck Abner off but Abner is having none of it. Wiener prevents Abner from moving into mount. Wiener is looking for a sweep. A control attempt from Wiener but he's now mounted! Score +2 for reaching mount: Abner (10) vs (0) Wiener The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Abner prevents Wiener from getting the reversal. Abner can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Wiener is looking to escape.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Abner fails to advance to Wiener's back. Abner tries to control but Wiener wriggling away. Abner content just to control the position here. Wiener really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Abner. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Abner trying to control but Wiener is having none of it. Abner is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Wiener has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Wiener! Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Abner (10) vs (2) Wiener Abner has control of Wiener's left arm, preventing Wiener from doing any damage. Wiener wants to control from the top but Abner keeps moving.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Abner pulls Wiener in close to his closed guard and prevents Wiener from doing any damage or advancing position. Wiener must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Abner keeping moving, preventing Wiener from controlling successfully. Abner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Abner is looking for a triangle but Wiener pushes his legs off easily.
Abner is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Abner (12) vs (2) Wiener
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Abner is keen to just control but Wiener is a slippery customer. Abner is working for a submission of some sort.
Abner is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Wiener doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Abner. Abner is taking a breather. Wiener says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Abner wants to pass to mount but Wiener is defending the position. Wiener is looking to improve his position.
Wiener makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Wiener. Abner engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Wiener can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Abner's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Abner is pushing down on Wiener's leg trying to pass to half guard. Wiener is fighting to maintain full guard but Abner has managed to sneak the leg through. Wiener is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Abner pulls his head out easily. Wiener is not content to let Abner control the position. Abner is figuring out what he wants to do next.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Wiener is trying to control but Abner passes into side control!
Score +3 for passing guard: Abner (15) vs (2) Wiener Abner tries to advance to mount but can't. Abner controlling from side mount. Abner is looking to take a break and control but Wiener is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Wiener tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Abner easily slips into full mount! Score +2 for reaching mount: Abner (17) vs (2) Wiener Wiener is squirming around, avoiding Abner's attempts to control the action. Wiener working to try and regain half guard.
Abner is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Wiener is surviving well by controlling Abner's body position as best he can.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Abner has control of Wiener's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Wiener regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Abner is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Wiener to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Wiener shrugs it off. Abner controlling the pace for now. Abner trying to control but Wiener is having none of it. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Wiener tries to hold on but Abner postures up.
And that's the end of the fight! Abner takes the fight on points by 17 to 2. Uncle Abner gave a mention to Glomco Nutrition in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales). |
