Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lucas Curtis (ranked 4964 p4p, 3610 weight class) and Rodney Bates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lucas Curtis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 3 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rodney Bates! The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Roosa Järviläinen and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Curtis looks to land a left hand but Bates moved out of range nicely. Bates checks a leg kick nicely. Curtis sets himself, and Bates steps forward looking for the clinch! Curtis avoids it this time. Bates moves into the clinch. Bates stalling the fight.
Bates turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Bates manages to end up in side control. Curtis tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bates wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Bates gets to mount! Curtis was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Bates get's back to his feet. Bates throws a head kick but Curtis moves out of range.
Bates tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Some bone on bone action there as Bates checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. A bone on bone clash there as Bates blocks the leg kick.
Curtis dives in and grabs Bates's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bates pushes down on Curtis's head and hops out.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bates swinging wildly here.
Bates shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Curtis napping and manages to drive through into side control! Bates controls the position. Curtis tries to buck Bates off but Bates is having none of it. Curtis manages to work his way to half guard, despite Bates's best efforts. Bates content to control rather than advance. Curtis is looking for a sweep. Bates is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bates looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Curtis looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Bates performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Curtis wants to improve his position but Bates is controlling well.
Bates is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Curtis! Curtis in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bates looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Curtis is looking to get to half guard. Bates has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Curtis's face.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Curtis is working to get back to half guard.
My spies in KO MMA inform me that Bates has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Bates lands a big elbow. Curtis is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Curtis keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Bates working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Curtis is desperately trying to improve his position but Bates has a good base and remains in mount. Bates manages to capitalize on a mistake by Curtis to take his back!

So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Curtis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bates on the ground. Bates slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Rodney Bates dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Bates tries to clinch there but Curtis circles away.
Curtis throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Bates sees it coming and avoids it easily. Bates misses with a shot to the body and Curtis counters by moving into the clinch. Curtis tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. Bates turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Bates manages to end up in side control. Rodney Bates has got the better of the ground game so far. Curtis is trying to improve his position. Curtis is trying to control Bates's posture but Bates avoids it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bates is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Curtis has escaped the position, nice work there. Curtis is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bates is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Curtis's shoulder. That is not cool. Curtis is looking for a sweep. Bates slows the pace down. Bates decides to take the fight back to the feet. Curtis misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
And Bates tries to counter it with a takedown but Curtis pushes his down on his head and steps out. Curtis is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Bates looks for a takedown but Curtis sprawls well. Curtis tries to counter by clinching up but Bates breaks away and moves out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Curtis looks to score with a jab to the body but Bates is just out of range. Curtis lands a really nice looking cross but Bates seems unphased.
Curtis throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Curtis circles away from the clinch attempt.

Curtis rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bates moves out of range and avoids them all easily. The fight stays on the outside here - Bates looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Bates tries to clinch but Curtis moves out of range.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bates on the wrong end of a nice hook. Bates misses with a wild body shot. Curtis looking to land some kicks to the body here.
A slow jab from Curtis misses its intended target. Bates throws a sloppy head kick and Curtis moves out of range easily. Curtis misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Bates changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Curtis misses with a looping right. Bates is trying hard to land a takedown here. Curtis sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Lucas Curtis is winning the standup battle so far. Bates shoots in for a takedown but Curtis shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Lucas Curtis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rodney Bates. Curtis lands a really nice looking cross but Bates seems unphased.
Curtis tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bates was well out of range. Poor timing from Curtis.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Curtis rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Bates counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Curtis is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Curtis is working for a submission of some sort.
Curtis wants to pass the guard but Bates is defending well. Bates is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Curtis's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Curtis's back! Bates keeps control of the position as Curtis tries to break free.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Lucas Curtis will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round! Bates shoots in for a takedown but Curtis shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Bates tries to bum rush Curtis with a series of wild strikes but Curtis uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Bates uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Curtis. Bates is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Rodney Bates seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Curtis throws a shot from downtown. Bates moves away and avoids it. Bates tries a head kick but it misses.
Curtis seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Curtis misses with a left hand and Bates counters with a series of strikes. Curtis will be more careful next time no doubt. Curtis throws a hook but Bates blocks it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A good leg kick by Curtis. Curtis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bates's corner is telling him to maintain position. Curtis has his foot on Bates's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bates works his way back into a safe position though. Curtis wants to sweep but no luck. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Curtis is trying to control the position but Bates postures up. Curtis looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Bates wants to stand but Curtis has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Bates slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. A slow jab from Curtis misses its intended target. Curtis stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Curtis wants it to stay on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Bates looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Curtis! Bates advances nicely into full mount. Curtis manages to regain half guard. Good work. Bates is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Well, if Bates is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Bates lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Curtis trying to hold on to Bates's head to control him but Bates postures up.
Bates keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Curtis looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Bates has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Bates works his foot free and advances to mount. Bates sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Curtis looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back! Bates punches Curtis on the ear. Bates looking for the choke from the back. Curtis can't escape the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Bates doesn't have the hooks in and Curtis manages to turn into his guard.

And that's the end of the fight! Rodney Bates comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Bates has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
