The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lazquo showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Palmer.
Lazquo moves into the clinch. Palmer breaks from the clinch.
Lazquo closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Palmer is staying active underneath Lazquo, who seems content to just control the action from this position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Palmer is looking to improve his position.

Lazquo wants to pass the guard but Palmer is keeping the position. Lazquo trying to control but Palmer is working from the bottom. Lazquo got a little sloppy there for a moment and Palmer has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lazquo has managed to get both his arms back between Palmer's legs - danger averted. Lazquo working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Palmer escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lazquo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The fighters roll with the hold and Palmer manages to kick Lazquo off! Lazquo jumps back into Palmer's guard. Lazquo trying to control but Palmer is working from the bottom. Lazquo drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Palmer dives on top into guard. Palmer seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lazquo keeping moving, preventing Palmer from controlling successfully. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lazquo not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Lazquo tries to land a sweep but no joy. Palmer wants to control from the top but Lazquo keeps moving. Lazquo looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Palmer passes into side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Lazquo can't do much from the bottom here. Palmer is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Lazquo knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Lazquo on the wrong end of some ground and pound. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Lazquo is looking to reverse the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Palmer gets a takedown into half guard. Lazquo tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Palmer has advanced to mount. Uh oh. Palmer sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Palmer fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

A big mistake from Palmer there, giving up the dominant position! Lazquo postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Palmer is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Lazquo, into his guard. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Lazquo holds on and takes a little breather.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Palmer wants to control from the top but Lazquo keeps moving. Lazquo looking to control.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Palmer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lazquo swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Palmer lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Lazquo with a poor takedown and Palmer counters with a nice double leg into guard. Lazquo working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Palmer has passed into half guard!
Lazquo is breathing heavily. Palmer looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Palmer passes the guard and advances to mount!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Palmer working for a guillotine from mount but Lazquo is in no mood to give up. The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Lazquo wants to clinch but Palmer slips to the side and Palmer counters with a nice double leg into guard. Palmer wants to control from the top but Lazquo keeps moving. Palmer throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Lazquo works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Dillon Palmer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Palmer slips nicely into half guard. Lazquo is trying to maintain the position but Palmer is very close to passing his half guard. Lazquo is trying to get back to full guard.

Lazquo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
