Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Maverick Davidson (ranked 4282 p4p, 4689 weight class) and Ikapoti Puapua (ranked 306 p4p, 0 weight class). Ikapoti Puapua has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Maverick Davidson's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Maverick Davidson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ikapoti Puapua! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Wesley Smith and Alan Glass.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Davidson lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Puapua tries to keep at a distance but Davidson has taken the fight into the clinch. Puapua managing to block the knees to the body from Davidson.

An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Davidson. Davidson misses with a hook from the clinch.
Davidson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Puapua tries to clinch there but Davidson circles away.
Davidson has closed the distance and engaged Puapua in a clinch.
Puapua stalls.
Davidson has clasped his hands together around Puapua's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Sloppy strikes there by Davidson. Puapua manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Puapua trying to control the pace. Davidson wants to get back to full guard. Davidson tries to kick Puapua off but Puapua keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Puapua stalling. Davidson is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Puapua jumps into side control!
 That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Puapua advances to mount. Davidson is trying to escape the mount.
Puapua tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Davidson squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Puapua controlling the position easily from mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Davidson is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Puapua has taken his back!
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Davidson is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. Puapua is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Davidson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Davidson is trying to stand back up. What can Davidson do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Davidson is trying to get back to his feet but Puapua has full control of the position and if anything, Davidson has just worked his way into a worse spot. So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Davidson is trying to stand back up. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Maverick Davidson will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.
Puapua uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Davidson.

Puapua's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Davidson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Decent striking displayed by Davidson there. We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Puapua in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.
Puapua drives through and clinches with Davidson against the cage.
Davidson works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Davidson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Davidson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Puapua looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Davidson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Davidson throws an elbow that misses. Puapua uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Davidson's guard. Nice move by Puapua!

 That's two minutes gone in the round. Puapua looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Ikapoti Puapua has got the better of the ground game so far. Puapua prevents Davidson from standing back up.

Davidson looking for subs from the bottom but Puapua mounts him! Puapua controlling from mount. Davidson tries to hold on but Puapua pushes him away. Puapua controlling from mount. Let's hope that Puapua has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Puapua manages to capitalize on a mistake by Davidson to take his back! Puapua controlling well, preventing Davidson from escaping the position.
Davidson trying to get back to his feet but Puapua is in full control for now. Puapua controlling the position well here. Davidson rolled but Puapua kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Davidson wants to control his opponent's hands but Puapua gets his hands free. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Puapua keeps control of the position as Davidson tries to break free.
Puapua has good solid back control here. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Ikapoti Puapua showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Puapua's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Puapua works a leg free and moves into half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Davidson is trying to escape back to his feet but Puapua uses the scramble to pass into side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Puapua is continuing to stall.

Davidson bucks up and tries to throw Puapua off but instead Puapua has got his back! Davidson is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Puapua really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Davidson. The adventures of Puapua the control monster continue. Boring. Davidson wants to get back to his feet. Davidson is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Puapua.

 That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Davidson is trying to stand back up. You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

And that's the end of the fight! Ikapoti Puapua comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Puapua has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
