PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Steve Headden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Randy Savage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Savage is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: OH YEAH!!!. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steve Headden!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Randy Savage!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, George Francis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Headden has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Nice straight punches there by Headden. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Headden.


It looks like Randy Savage has been cut.
Savage misses with a jab, cross combination.
Headden avoids the head kick by Savage.

Savage throws the kick towards the body but Headden avoids it.
Headden looks to land a combination but Savage avoids it well.

Headden changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Savage looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Headden swings around for an armbar but Savage sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Headden's guard.

Headden had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Savage is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Headden Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Savage's back instead.

Headden is looking for the choke from the back position but Savage is controlling his hands well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Headden has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Savage has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Headden jabs Savage right on the nose. Savage blinks but takes it well.
Headden will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Savage avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Headden throws a series of punches but Savage avoids them all with ease.

A decent looking cross lands there for Headden.

Savage fails to land with a series of punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Randy Savage's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Headden moves out of range of the leg kick from Savage.

Savage shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Headden's guard.

Headden blocks Savage's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Headden lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Savage hang on?

Headden looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Savage is looking to control Headden's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Savage avoid being mounted?
Savage flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Savage throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Headden counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.


That has opened up Randy Savage's cut even more.
Headden closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Randy Savage seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Headden throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Steve Headden is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Savage throws a left and a right that both miss
and Headden connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Savage misses with a looping left.
Savage misses with a two punch combination.
Savage tries to score a power double leg takedown but Headden sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Savage somewhat.

The cut above Randy Savage's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Savage drops his hands momentarily. Headden doesn't need a second invitation, landing a shot to the temple. Savage staggers and falls to the mat and the ref dives in to save him from any more punishment. Savage doesn't seem happy with the stoppage but he was done.
