Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Swanson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Davidson! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Alan Glass and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Swanson pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. No joy there for Swanson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Horrible takedown by Davidson or perhaps it was just good defense by Swanson which made him look bad. Swanson ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Swanson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Davidson was well out of range. Poor timing from Swanson. Davidson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Swanson avoids it really well and circles away. Swanson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Davidson was well out of range. That's one minute gone in the round. Swanson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Swanson lands in his opponent's guard. Davidson wants to sweep here but Swanson controlling him for the moment. Swanson postures up.
Swanson wants to control from the top but Davidson keeps moving. Swanson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Davidson swivels though and keeps the full guard. Davidson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Swanson defends well. Davidson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Swanson manages to get himself to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Swanson is trying to keep Davidson in close.

Swanson preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. Swanson works his way to full guard. Good work. Davidson is on the wrong end of a couple of strikes there. Swanson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Davidson wants to control but Swanson is keeping busy.
Davidson is refusing to be controlled, as Swanson sits in half guard. Swanson is thwarting Davidson's attempts to control the position. Swanson passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Davidson! Swanson has control of Davidson's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Davidson regains control of the situation pretty easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. A nice elbow there by Swanson. Davidson can't escape the position.
Swanson lands a big shot there that rocks Davidson but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Swanson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Davidson is looking to get to half guard. Swanson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Davidson is looking to escape. Swanson lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joe Swanson dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Davidson tries for a takedown but Swanson circles away easily and Swanson counters with a straight right hand. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. That's one minute gone in the round. Swanson passes into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Davidson is breathing heavily. Swanson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Davidson wants to get back to full guard. Swanson is nestled in close to Davidson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Swanson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Davidson tries to roll over but Swanson keeps him under control. Davidson keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Swanson landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Davidson wants to get back to full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. A jab from Davidson misses. Swanson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Swanson takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Swanson moves out of range of the strikes. Davidson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Swanson throws out the jab. Swanson misses with a body shot

A big right from Davidson misses. Swanson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Davidson. Joe Swanson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Davidson.

and Davidson counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Swanson's guard now. Swanson is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

That was a close second round but I would say that Joe Swanson will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Swanson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Davidson was covering up waiting for the punch and Swanson finishes the takedown easily into guard. Davidson tries to land a sweep but no joy. Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Davidson slips a jab and a cross from Swanson.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Swanson lands a jab to the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Davidson is looking to reverse the position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Davidson misses with a series of wild punches.
Davidson takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Davidson might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Swanson scores with the left hand. Davidson knows he should have avoided that one. Joe Swanson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Swanson drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Joe Swanson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Swanson thows a big elbow that misses. Mark Davidson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Swanson trying to control but Davidson is working from the bottom. Davidson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Swanson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Swanson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Swanson missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Joe Swanson. Well Swanson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
