PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Wala Sapi (ranked 23266 p4p, 23047 weight class) and Higanti Libat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 60 - 57 - 13, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 50 - 73 - 6, fighting out of Las Vegas, Higanti Libat!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Daniel Franklin and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Libat stuffs the takedown attempt from Sapi. Sapi gets slowly back to his feet.
Libat follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.

Sapi feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Libat seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sapi is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Libat pulls Sapi in close to his closed guard and prevents Sapi from doing any damage or advancing position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Libat's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Sapi not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Libat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sapi manages to get back to half guard.
Sapi is controlling Libat's trapped leg to prevent Libat from advancing to side control.
Libat content to control rather than advance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sapi is concentrating on defense, preventing Libat from advancing position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sapi wants to control but Libat is keeping busy.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Higanti Libat dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Sapi dives in for a single leg takedown but Libat sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
And Libat responds with a good body kick, but Sapi manages to step out the way in time.

Sapi gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Sapi sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Libat not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Libat has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Sapi engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Sapi stopping the sweep attempt from Libat.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sapi comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Sapi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Libat pinned against the cage. Libat gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Libat shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sapi defends it nicely.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wala Sapi. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Libat fails with a takedown attempt.

Libat shoots in and bounces Sapi off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sapi pulls Libat in to control the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Wala Sapi will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Libat fails with the takedown.
Libat misses with a takedown attempt - Sapi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sapi shoots in but no luck this time.
Libat throws a fast counter high kick but Sapi manages to duck under it in time.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Sapi is defended easily by Libat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sapi dives in for a single leg takedown but Libat sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Libat thinks about the counter body kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wala Sapi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sapi is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Libat has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Sapi clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Libat slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Sapi is in bad spot here.
Will Libat go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Sapi trying to control the hands but Libat won't let him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sapi breaks Libat's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Sapi postures up.
Sapi slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Sapi drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Libat manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Sapi has Libat in his guard.


That's four minutes gone in the round.
Libat is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Libat got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sapi has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Libat has managed to get both his arms back between Sapi's legs - danger averted.

And that's the end of the fight!
Higanti Libat comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Libat has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
