The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shields tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but reyes paws at him with a jab and circles away.
reyes rushes Shields and presses him up against the cage.
reyes fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Shields pulls guard.
Shields is trying to control the position but reyes postures up.
Shields throws some shots to the body, keeping his opponent honest.
Shields throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Shields had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. reyes is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Shields Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take reyes's back instead.

reyes wants to control his opponent's hands but Shields gets his hands free.
reyes defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Shields's arms.

Shields is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. reyes knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften reyes for a finish.

Shields lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

reyes wanted to stand there but Shields had control of the position.
Shields has his foot on reyes's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. reyes works his way back into a safe position though.
