PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cal Ripken (ranked 3426 p4p, 25764 weight class) and Masato Nakamura (ranked 396 p4p, 539 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cal Ripken!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Masato Nakamura!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, John Mangel and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nakamura misses the shot to the body.
Nakamura lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Ripken misses with a right hand
and Nakamura counters with a stiff right hand.
A big right from Nakamura misses.
Ripken definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Nakamura misses the shot to the body.
Ripken lands a nice shot that snaps Nakamura's head back.
Nakamura throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ripken misses with a left hand
and Nakamura counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Ripken misses with the combination.
It seemed like Nakamura was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Ripken takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Nakamura throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Ripken sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Nakamura throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Nice uppercut lands for Nakamura. That snapped Ripken's head back.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ripken misses with a left hand
and Nakamura counters with a nice low kick that buckles Ripken's knee momentarily.
Ripken missing with a left hand there. Nakamura was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ripken misses with a right hand
and Nakamura counters with a series of strikes. Ripken will be more careful next time no doubt.

Ripken is rocked!
Nakamura throws a looping overhand right but Ripken ducks down to avoid it.
Oh Ripken is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Nakamura slips a straight right by Ripken.
Nakamura ducks under a wild hook from Ripken.
Ripken seems to have got his legs back now.
Ripken loads up on a big right hand but Nakamura slips the punch.
Nakamura is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Ripken with a body shot.
Ripken pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
A countering left hand to the body from Nakamura misses.
Nakamura tries to move into range but Ripken moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Nakamura waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Ripken.
Ripken jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Nakamura fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Nakamura misses the shot to the body.
Cal Ripken seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A swing and a miss from Ripken.
Nakamura looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
Nakamura displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Ripken throws out the jab.
Ripken keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Nakamura.
Nakamura throws a jab when Ripken was well out of range.
Ripken drops his hands momentarily and Nakamura takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Nakamura fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Ripken manages to avoid it.
Ripken looks to land a left hand but Nakamura moved out of range nicely.
Ripken swings widly with a right hand
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Look low, kick high! Nakamura uses the oldest trick in the book to send Ripken tumbling to the canvas, in a truly brutal knockout! Nakamura is absolutely delighted - when Ripken wakes up, I doubt he'll be quite so happy!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:17 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Masato Nakamura!
