PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dwight Shrute (ranked 24248 p4p, 4414 weight class) and Allejo Madera (ranked 531 p4p, 447 weight class). Shrute's entrance music is Battlestart Galactica theme. A fine choice. The key to victory for Dwight Shrute has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 45 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dwight Shrute!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Allejo Madera!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Felipe Paraventi and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Madera drives through and clinches with Shrute against the cage.

Shrute breaks the clinch.
We've been told by Shrute's head coaches at Cozad MMA St Petersburg that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Shrute gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Madera to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Madera might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Shrute haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Madera looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Shrute with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Allejo Madera dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Madera changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Shrute looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Shrute bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Shrute shoots in for a takedown but Madera shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Madera shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Shrute manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Shrute knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Madera on the ground.
Madera is in close to Shrute's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Madera chips away with some ground and pound.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Madera makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Madera's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Shrute tries to score a power double leg takedown but Madera sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Shrute somewhat.
Dwight Shrute is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Madera rushes Shrute and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Madera throws an elbow but it misses.
Madera has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Shrute manages to pull guard.

Allejo Madera showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Shrute's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
