PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Howlett (ranked 1334 p4p, 826 weight class) and Journey Sky (ranked 143 p4p, 85 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Howlett might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Indestructible. Journey Sky has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 16 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Howlett! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Journey Sky! The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Patrick Alders and Saam Ante.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Howlett walks into a jab. Sky keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
 Howlett is rocked! Howlett shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sky as he jumps to the side.
Howlett darts in and clinches Sky up against the cage. Sky pushes Howlett back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. A short uppercut from Sky. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Sky creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Howlett blocking some punches.
Sky lands with a short shot to the head.
Sky breaks from the clinch.
Howlett fails with a takedown attempt from distance. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. The fight stays on the outside here - Howlett looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Howlett tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sky swivels and escapes. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Howlett. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Howlett shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Sky manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Sky has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Howlett off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Howlett wants to clinch and Sky counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Sky lands a big uppercut and Howlett crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Howlett looks OK. Sky waves Howlett back to his feet! Oh Howlett is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Horrible takedown attempt by Howlett or perhaps it was just good defense by Sky, which made it look bad. Sky looks like he wants to counter punch here. Sky has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Howlett displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Sky throws out the jab. Sky stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sky wants it to stay on the feet. A nice side step and Sky releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Howlett misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Howlett tries to clinch up. Howlett seems to have got his legs back now.
Sky lands a big right hand that sends Howlett crashing to the mat! Sky stays standing though and waves Howlett back to his feet! Howlett tries to clinch up but Sky circles away and keeps his distance.
Howlett closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Sky's guard.
Sky is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Sky creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Sky prevents the takedown attempt.
Sky lands a nice uppercut. Sky lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Howlett is working for takedown but Sky is calmly controlling the position for now. Sky throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Howlett blocks it with crossed arms. A right handed body shot lands from Sky.
Sky lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Howlett backwards. Sky scores with a shot to the side of Howlett's head. Sky digs a right hand into Howlett's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Howlett's gas tank. A right hook to the body lands for Sky.
Howlett is breathing heavily. A short right hand to the side of the head by Sky. Sky landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Sky softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Sky throws a big uppercut that drops Howlett! More strikes from Sky and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Howlett lies dazed against the cage as Sky celebrates with his cornermen!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Journey Sky! An out of breath Journey Sky thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
