This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 40 wins and 35 losses; Uncle Abner! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 54 wins and 32 losses; Trip Fontaine! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Glass and Paul Tew.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.
Abner instigates a clinch.
Abner manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Abner is on top in guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fontaine tries to push Abner's head away but Abner is holding on tight. Abner reaches up to try and control the position but Fontaine seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Fontaine wants to pass the guard but Abner is keeping the position. Fontaine is still trying to improve position. Abner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Fontaine tries to free his leg and advance position but Abner is retaining full guard. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Fontaine trying to control but he's not successful this time. Fontaine is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Abner is wriggling around trying to escape.
 That's seven minutes gone in the round. Fontaine wants to take his opponent's back but Abner doesn't allow it. Fontaine wants to control the pace but Abner is squirming around nicely. Fontaine wants to take Abner's back here but Abner is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

Fontaine has control of Abner's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Abner regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Fontaine swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Abner is now in Fontaine's guard. A big mistake from Fontaine there, giving up the dominant position! Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Abner (6) vs (14) Fontaine Abner is stalling in the full guard.
Fontaine has his foot on Abner's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Abner works his way back into a safe position though.

Abner is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Abner is trying to control the action in half guard but Fontaine is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Abner is thwarting Fontaine's attempts to control the position. Abner tries to pass to full mount but Fontaine defends it. Abner is looking to take a break and control but Fontaine is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Fontaine moves into full guard.

Fontaine working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Abner doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Abner manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Abner pushing down on Fontaine's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Fontaine wants to control but Abner is keeping busy and won't allow it. Abner wants to lay and pray for a moment but Fontaine keeps working. Fontaine is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Abner is looking to control Fontaine's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Abner avoid being mounted?
 That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Fontaine looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Abner trying to control but Fontaine postures up.
Fontaine is looking to take a break and control but Abner is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Abner has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Fontaine is working away from the top position though. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Abner gets full guard. Abner is trying to hold Fontaine in close to prevent damage but Fontaine has managed to pass into half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Fontaine wins on points by 16 to 6. Trip Fontaine really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that The Huntington New Age Wellness Community logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty. |
