PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Chocker Off (ranked 4650 p4p, 25340 weight class) and Kelvin Armstrong (ranked 435 p4p, 494 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Chocker Off!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kelvin Armstrong!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Ackerman and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Off stuffs the takedown.
Armstrong darts in looking for a takedown but Off gets double underhooks and turns Armstrong into the cage.
Nice takedown defense from Off. No joy for Armstrong on that attempt.
Chocker Off has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kelvin Armstrong.
Off lands with a nice body kick.
Off connects with a looping right hand.
Armstrong tries for a takedown but Off sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Armstrong.
We've been told by Off's head coaches at ubergym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Armstrong wants to stand but Off has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard.

Off escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Armstrong gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Armstrong wants to pass the guard but Off is keeping the position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Armstrong wants to control from the top but Off keeps moving.
Armstrong not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Armstrong shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Off is breathing heavily.
Off closes the distance and clinches up with Armstrong, looking for a takedown. Off pushes Armstrong against the cage but Armstrong circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
And Armstrong tries to counter it with a takedown but Off pushes his down on his head and steps out.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Armstrong shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Off as he jumps to the side.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Armstrong takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Horrible takedown attempt by Off or perhaps it was just good defense by Armstrong, which made it look bad.
Off dives in for a single leg takedown but Armstrong sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Armstrong is trying to pull guard but Off turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

A close round but Kelvin Armstrong will probably get the nod.
That's time! Off's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Armstrong is defended easily by Off.
Armstrong shoots in but no luck this time.

Armstrong shoots in and bounces Off off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Let's hope that Armstrong has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Off has his foot on Armstrong's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Armstrong works his way back into a safe position though.

Off fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Off drops down looking for a counter takedown but Armstrong sprawls and moves away.

Armstrong's coach down at Special Ops N7 Training was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Armstrong's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Off shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Off showed some decent athleticism there.
Armstrong makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Armstrong.

Armstrong is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Off throws an elbow but Armstrong slips to the side and avoids it well.

That's time! Off's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Armstrong tries to score a power double leg takedown but Off sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Armstrong somewhat.

Off gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Armstrong regains guard.

Armstrong had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Off defends it easily.
Off is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Armstrong is trying to keep Off in close.
Off wants to control from the top but Armstrong keeps moving.
Armstrong wants to sweep but no luck.

Armstrong is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Armstrong is taking a breather. Off says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Armstrong is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Off has managed to free his arm - good work.

Off is defending against the submission attempts here by Armstrong.
Armstrong is trying to control the action in half guard but Off is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Armstrong is looking to advance position but Off won't allow it.
Off wants to control but Armstrong is keeping busy.
Armstrong is trying to control. Off wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Chocker Off is winning the standup battle so far.
Armstrong shoots in looking for a takedown but Off manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Armstrong's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Off stuffs the takedown.

Armstrong drives through with a takedown into guard.

Armstrong wants to get up but he can't break Off's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Kelvin Armstrong.
I think Armstrong has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
