Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, James Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Poe Kant!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Phil Schofield and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Smith.

Kant manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Smith on his heels. He'll look to pass Smith's guard now, I'm sure.
Kant is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Kant passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kant working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Smith definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kant wants to control but Smith is keeping him busy.

Smith dodges the ground and pound from Kant.
Smith seems a little lost for a moment, as Kant dominates the positioning.
Kant looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Smith is avoiding damage well.
Smith is not content to let Kant control the position.
Smith tries to improve position but can't.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Smith struggling a bit here.
Smith pushes Kant away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Kant gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Kant trying to control the position but Smith is working away.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Kant tries to move to mount but Smith blocks the move with his legs.
Kant wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smith keeps working.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Smith feints and as Kant raises his hands in defense, Smith changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kant thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Smith would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Kant is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Smith might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Kant tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Smith wanted to stand there but Kant had control of the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Smith fails with the takedown.

Smith tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Smith shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kant defends it nicely.
Kant stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kant wants it to stay on the feet.
Kant wants to counter with a clinch but Smith pushes him away.
Smith fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Smith doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Kant cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Smith looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Smith fails to land the takedown.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Poe Kant dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Smith takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Smith gets caught flat footed, as Kant shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Kant is thwarting Smith's attempts to control the position.
Kant seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Kant moves into full mount! Smith won't be happy about that!

Kant swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Smith is now in Kant's guard. A big mistake from Kant there, giving up the dominant position!
Smith has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kant is proving hard to escape from.
Smith seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Smith is pushing down on Kant's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kant is fighting to maintain full guard but Smith has managed to sneak the leg through.

Poe Kant has got the better of the ground game so far.

Kant wants to sweep here but Smith controlling him for the moment.
Kant keeping moving, preventing Smith from controlling successfully.
Smith wants to stand but Kant has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Smith stands up from Kant's guard - Smith perhaps looking for a knockout.
Smith closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kant circles away.

Kant moves into the clinch.

Smith shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kant as he jumps to the side.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Kant.
Kant postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Smith is trying to buck Kant off.
Kant trying to control the position but Smith is working away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Poe Kant showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Kant fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Smith to the ground. Kant is now in Smith's guard.

Kant throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Kant looking to sit in guard and control but Smith gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Smith has gone for a leg lock! Kant slips out almost immediately though and dives into Smith's guard.

Kant decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Smith, up you get!
Smith shoots for a takedown but Kant saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Kant shoots in and bounces Smith off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Kant trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kant slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Kant must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Kant looking to sit in guard and control but Smith gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Smith seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Kant wants to get back to his feet but Smith is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Smith works over Kant with some ground and pound from guard.
Smith with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Kant had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Smith defends it easily.
Smith with a nice head shot there.

Kant is rocked!
Smith wants to control from the top but Kant keeps moving.

Kant controls Smith momentarily but Smith frees himself.
Smith postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Kant is still in real trouble! Can Smith finish him?
Smith wanted to stand there but Kant had control of the position.
Smith keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Kant's head.
Smith trying to stand up but can't free himself from Kant's guard.
Smith scoring with punches to the head and body.
Smith gets to his feet and stands over Kant, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Kant felt that one! Smith unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Kant from any more punishment!
