PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bobby Mercer (ranked 380 p4p, 3594 weight class) and Krzysztof Zakrzewski (ranked 45 p4p, 350 weight class). Mercer comes to the cage accompanied by Why Can't We Be Friends by WAR. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

With a record of 9 - 43 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Krzysztof Zakrzewski!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zakrzewski is looking to clinch.
Zakrzewski throws a wild body kick that Mercer sees coming a mile off.
Mercer pushes Zakrzewski away with a front kick.
Zakrzewski on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Zakrzewski shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Mercer has one foot on Zakrzewski's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Nice takedown defense from Mercer. No joy for Zakrzewski on that attempt.
Zakrzewski moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Zakrzewski wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Mercer has him pressed against the cage.

Mercer bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Mercer remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Mercer scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Zakrzewski to see if he's OK.

Mercer misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Zakrzewski is trying to get back to half guard.
Mercer lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Zakrzewski down.
Zakrzewski is looking to reverse the position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mercer looks up at the clock and then as Zakrzewski takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Mercer smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Mercer is putting a hurting on Zakrzewski here, landing some big shots from side control.

Mercer has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Mercer lands a jab to the nose.
Mercer thumps Zakrzewski with a low kick.

and Mercer counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Bobby Mercer is winning the standup battle so far.
Mercer pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Zakrzewski back to the cage. Mercer follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Mercer counters with a right hand to the body.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Zakrzewski.
Zakrzewski is breathing heavily.
Zakrzewski shoots for a takedown but Mercer saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Mercer appears to be looking for a big counter.
Jab, jab by Mercer - just one landing.
Zakrzewski tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Zakrzewski takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Mercer lands with a slapping head kick.
Donk. Mercer catches Zakrzewski right on the button with a cross.
Mercer is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Zakrzewski can do to turn this around?

Mercer scores with a crisp jab that stopped Zakrzewski in his tracks.

Mercer scores with a hook to the body. Zakrzewski takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Zakrzewski seems to have recovered his senses.

and Mercer connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Zakrzewski ducks right into an uppercut from Mercer.
Mercer plants his feet and throws a 3 punch combo. Miss, miss, boom! The third punch, a big right hook, connects right on the temple and drops Zakrzewski to the mat, unconscious! This fight is all over! Zakrzewski just couldn't keep out of the way of the whole flurry of punches!
